Chapter 834
Madeline:
Baxter had come out after convincing his wolf that he needed to put him to sleep.
He had a good excuse too: werewolves were coming over, and they would be able to smell such a powerful wolf on him.
So he put him to sleep.
Finally, we were together again, and Baxter told me that everything had worked.
Kaylee had not only bought the whole thing, but she had gone along with it.
That was exactly what I expected from her.
She was an opportunist.
She would do anything except change her ways.
The fact that she genuinely thought she could come here and steal Baxter from me made me so angry that I had to keep forcing myself to stay calm.
Now we were all sitting together, talking about almost everything, except for a few things Ron had said he still needed to tell me.
“What is it?” I asked.
We had already had an amazing dinner.
My children had spent most of their time playing with Yuvonne, while Ron caught up with Baxter.
I could tell Ron was a little upset that Baxter still didn’t have his memories.
“Sawyer is trying to prove himself within a week, and he plans to do it by killing the monster,” Ron said.
My heart immediately skipped a beat.
“Well, he can’t do that,” I said. “I mean, the monster isn’t bothering anyone, is he?”
Judging by the way they looked at me, they could already hear the difference in my tone whenever I mentioned the monster.
And I knew my argument wasn’t entirely fair.
People were being affected by it.
“The thing is, Sawyer claims the monster is directly connected to the children being in pain,” Ron explained.
Yuvonne nodded beside him, making it clear they had already discussed this back in the werewolf world.
“Well, that’s not true,” I said, drawing in a deep breath. “What does Rosetta say about it?”
Her name came out of my mouth almost too quickly.
Ron and Yuvonne exchanged another glance.
Even my mother began rubbing her hands together anxiously, waiting to hear whether our suspicions were actually true.
If they were, then it meant we had found each other again.
“Well, Rosetta is going to prevent it.”
The moment Ron said that, a spark of hope lit inside me.
I smiled at my mother before glancing at Livia, who was quietly smiling too.
“I mean, there are some other things you should know,” Ron said, shifting on the sofa before his gaze moved to Baxter. “You had a sister who passed away, remember?”
Baxter lowered his head, then slowly shook it.
“Oh, right. You don’t have your memories.” Ron slapped his forehead before
continuing. “Well, it seems Rosetta is that sister.”
His words shocked everyone for different reasons.
Baxter looked stunned because, as far as he knew, his dead sister was suddenly alive.
And I was shocked because I had thought Rosetta might be my sister.
But it made sense.
If Rosetta was Baxter’s sister, of course she would want to help him and his children.
“I’m so happy for you.”
The words slipped out before I could explain myself, making everyone look at me in confusion.
“I mean, Rosetta is a wonderful
woman,” I added quickly. “And when you lost her; you blamed yourself for what happened. Your parents punished you for it, especially your was so harsh on you.”
mother. Lady Eugen Pecially
I kept talking because the longer I stayed quiet, the closer I came to crying. Now I had a sister out there somewhere, and I didn’t even know where she was.
Still, I was genuinely happy for Baxter.
He deserved this.
After everything his mother had put him through because of what happened to his sister, he deserved to have that happiness back.
“Oh, wow,” Baxter murmured. “She told me she was a very kind woman.”
A smile slowly spread across his face.
“Your sister looks like Madeline.”
Livia let the words slip before immediately biting her tongue, as if she hadn’t meant
to say them aloud.
A strange chill ran down my back.
I have told Livia how much Rosetta resembled me.
“Lady Eugenia was living with Rosetta,” Ron added. “She was the one who made
sure your sister stayed alive.”
My head snapped toward him.
Baxter noticed.
“So she punished him all these years while his sister was alive?” I snapped, raising
my voice.
“Um— you’re in for another surprise. There’s more.”
“There’s more?” I asked, turning toward Ron.
“Well, Rosetta is actually your sister
It was hone
that Lady Eugenia
wanted to use to shift her dying
daughter’s soul back into.” .
Ron’s words made me lean back in my chair and draw in a deep breath.
It was a lot to take in, and for a moment, I couldn’t even understand what it meant.
“Wait, so whose sister is alive?” Baxter asked, holding Ron’s gaze.
Ron turned toward me and flashed a strained smile.
“Madeline’s.”
The moment the word left his
mouth, my mother clutched her…
chest and started to sobnet
overwhelmed by the realization that
we had finally found our last sister.
