Chapter 767
Daniel:
“I’m going to give him the trigger instead of the medicine. He’ll never find out,” Livia whispered as we began getting dressed.
I turned my face away so I wouldn’t see anything she didn’t want me to see.
I was respecting her boundaries.
“That would be a really good idea,” I murmured.
“You know-” She suddenly laughed.
I looked at her once she was fully dressed.
I was dressed too, just pulling my shirt on.
“You’re such a baby,” she teased, making my smile slowly fade.
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“Well, you wouldn’t even look at me. I mean, a real man would definitely want to sneak a glimpse. But you’re so sweet. You’re so adorable.”
I didn’t know. It was the way she said it.
It didn’t feel like a compliment.
“I mean, I respect your privacy,” I replied.
She placed her hands on her waist before giving a small nod.
“Yeah, and you know what? My mother used to say, ‘Oh my God, Daniel is a good
guy. Date him.’ Like, we could never be a thing.”
The way she said those words, I just didn’t understand why.
But my heart slowly began to crumble.
“Don’t get me wrong. You deserve someone who likes the things you like, who’s shy, who’s polite, not someone wild. You’re not made for wild people,” she mumbled, pointing at herself before hurrying to the door to check whether the guards were listening.
I just stood where I was, feeling so fucking low.
“I mean, I was good when I was pretending,” I joked, trying to sound like someone I wasn’t.
Maybe a bad boy? Is that what all women like?
She looked at me, then scoffed.
“No, Daniel. You’re my best friend, but I’ve never had those kinds of feelings for you. You don’t arouse me. Don’t get me wrong, you’re so fucking handsome physically. But your personality and your body language make you seem very timid. And I’m into very rough, raw men.”
She added that before walking over to the bed and pulling out a piece of paper to write on.
I remained at the edge of the bed, staring at my reflection in the mirror hanging ahead of me.
I was broad. I mean, I worked out, but what did she mean by my personality?
“I mean, if there hadn’t been a cushion-” I started to say again, but she gestured for me to be quiet.
“Daniel, come on. Let’s just be
honest. You were so shy. I had to do
everything myself. And let’s just
forget about what my mother said “It was just something that came to mind, and I decided to clear it up.”
She answered without even looking at me, continuing to write.
It was as if she’d realized I had feelings for her and had decided to put me in my place by reminding me that I wasn’t the kind of man she wanted, that I wasn’t strong enough for her.
I don’t know why, but even though it was the truth, it still hurt.
“Okay, listen. These are the things you’re supposed to prepare just in case everything gets out of hand and you need a weapon to defend yourself. All of these will be used against him. As for me, I’ll give him the trigger and tell him it’s something that will help him control his lycan just like wolfsbane. Okay?”
Livia got up, rushed over to me, and handed me a piece of paper.
I took it from her, but my mind was still stuck on her words.
“Come on, let’s go, Daniel. We have to do this, okay? And please be careful.”
Even as she spoke, there was so much concern in her voice, but I guessed the damage had already been done.
She had broken something inside me, possibly hope, and in the worst way possible.
There would have been other ways for her to shut me down if she’d picked up on my feelings.
“Okay,” I replied. “You take care of yourself too.”
I didn’t even turn around to look at her.
As soon as I walked out of the room, I heard one of the guards grunt.
“So, for someone who was so shivery and shaky, you sure got her moaning a lot louder than we were expecting.”
The guard burst into laughter.
My head slowly turned, and I saw Livia standing in the doorway with a hand over her mouth, looking as though she was trying to hold back a laugh.
The moment she noticed me looking at her, she immediately lowered her hand and forced a straight face.
She had been laughing at me.
She found their jokes funny.
The way she looked back at me for those few seconds, I could tell she realized it had been a very inappropriate reaction.
“Bye,” I muttered, pretending to still be the guy who was her boy toy, as if I ever could be.
I hated my pathetic thoughts.
How could I ever imagine myself with someone so gorgeous like her?
As soon as I walked out of her apartment, tears rushed down my face.
I quickly wiped them away with the backs of my hands.
