Daniel:

Baxter and I were sitting together, making a plan, when my phone buzzed and Livia’s number appeared on the screen.

“It’s Livia,” I told Baxter.

We immediately pushed the papers aside and moved closer together on the couch, our eyes fixed on the phone.

I gave him a nod before putting the call on speaker.

“Livia, where the fuck have you been?” I demanded, immediately voicing my

concern.

She responded rather strangely from the other end.

Her voice was unusually calm.

“I was busy with work, but now I’m back, and I’m fine. But I miss you.”

I was caught off guard when she spoke in a seductive tone.

I looked at Baxter, who raised an eyebrow at me because, well, I hadn’t told him that there was something going on between us.

“Um-you did?” I asked in confusion.

Baxter shook his head and reached for the phone to speak to her, but before he could say anything, she spoke up again.

“I was ummm thinking maybe we could just spend the night together. I was really lonely,” she said, another seductive moan slipping from her lips.

Baxter immediately pulled his hand back and looked at me questioningly.

Then he leaned forward to speak, but she cut him off again.

“And while you’re coming over, please bring enough food for seven or eight people. The guards seem to be starving.”

There was a slight sigh in her voice, as though she were exhausted.

By then, both Baxter and I were on high alert.

“And don’t bring condoms. Um- if I need any, I’ll ask these guards to get it for me.”

I felt heat rush to my ears.

I had no clue what she was doing.

Had she called the wrong person?

Did she have someone who came over to please her?

A thousand thoughts raced through my mind when I felt Baxter’s grip tighten around my wrist.

I looked over at him, and he gave me a subtle nod.

“Um- okay. I’ll— I’m actually on my way,” I replied eagerly.

She ended the call without another word.

“It’s Sawyer’s guards. They’re with her,” Baxter said immediately.

I slapped my forehead.

“Why? Did you really think she was calling you for sex?”

Being Baxter, he asked it in an icy tone that made my throat go dry.

“No, but I was definitely confused,” I admitted, feeling thoroughly unsettled.

I’d loved Livia for a very long time, so hearing her say all that felt different. For a moment, it felt as though she’d finally acknowledged my feelings.

She hadn’t.

It turned out she had been giving me a hint that I needed to visit her.

“Where do you think you’re going?” Baxter asked the moment I got up from my chair.

“I have to go see her,” I replied, watching him slap his forehead.

“We’ve got to change your

appearance. I mean, disguise you,

Baxter said as he rummaged

through the bags and pulled out a

cap before signing.

“We’ll need a beard and a mustache too.”

He was taking every precaution, and I couldn’t blame him.

The people we loved were trapped there, and there was a fucking lycan standing between us and them.

Over the next few minutes, Baxter helped disguise me as an ordinary guy wearing baggy jeans.

He had me put in contact lenses, wear a wig, and stick on a fake mustache and beard.

Then I was all set.

When I arrived at the building and rang the doorbell, the door was answered by none other than a guard.

He looked me up and down before chuckling.

“Come here. Look what she called over for herself.”

The way he called the other guard made my heart start pounding in my chest.

The two of them looked me up and down before rolling their eyes.

“Look at that beard. It’s so nasty. Why couldn’t she just do it with one of us?”

As the guard spoke, my fists clenched.

“This must be the food for us.”

Then he noticed the large bag in my hand and snatched it away.

“Where is she?” I asked, eager to see her.

“She’s in the room,” the guard replied, pointing down the hallway.

I hurried inside, but just as I was

about to close the door, the guardet

shoved his hand against it, stopping me

I turned my head and noticed Livia in the kitchen instead.

She walked out, looked at me, and forced a smile.

“Oh, hey, David,” she said as she hurried over and wrapped her arms around me.

I hugged her back immediately.

I wasn’t pretending.

I genuinely cared about her.

“You two aren’t supposed to close

the door,” the guard said, making us look at each other as we pulled

“I’m not going to do anything in front of everyone. I’m really possessive of her,” I

said.

Once again, I wasn’t being dramatic.

I genuinely meant it.

Just the thought that they expected her to get naked in front of them was enough to

make my blood boil.
