Chapter 651
Rosetta:
“She’s adorable,” I said.
I didn’t bend down or make a fuss over her, but I gently pinched Elara’s cheek
before looking back at Elgin.
I noticed he’d brought several bags with him.
From the look of them, I could tell they contained some old belongings.
He explained that they were some of Hailey and Hannah’s old things that he’d brought until he could get Elara something new.
“These are old clothes,” he murmured.
I’d noticed that he hadn’t looked at Elara with affection even once.
Of course, his favorite daughters were Hailey and Hannah.
They were his children, and he’d been part of their lives from the beginning.
“I wanted to ask if you’d come and stay with me to help take care of Elara. Silver refuses to.”
At the mention of Silver, he rolled his eyes.
I gave him a small nod, understanding how difficult it was to be with a mate who was such an arrogant piece of shit.
“I can’t leave my pack,” I replied calmly. “But she can stay here for as long as she wants. I’ll take care of her, don’t worry.”
I reassured him, and it seemed that was exactly what he wanted to hear because he smiled the moment I said it.
“I knew I could count on you,” he said with a smile.
His words brought a soft blush to my cheeks.
As always, I was dressed entirely in black.
A black gown, and black lace gloves.
I looked prim and proper, as though there wasn’t anything broken inside me.
“I’d originally planned to stay here, but my mother has been blowing up my phone, you know.”
He hesitated for a moment before continuing.
“Because of the council leader meeting.”
He looked guilty, as though he felt bad for leaving so much responsibility on my shoulders.
“It’s okay. I understand.”
Once again, my response brought a smile to his lips.
I could already tell that he liked me more than Silver.
And why wouldn’t he?
I was better than her in every aspect.
She was cruel, while I wasn’t.
She was rough, whereas I was gentle and obedient.
“If you have any problems at all, please let me know. I’ll come right away.”
He said it while I waved a hand, dismissing his concerns.
“Come on, don’t worry. I can take care of a child. I’ve been taking care of pets my whole life, so go.”
I playfully nudged him toward the exit.
He reluctantly glanced back, pouting as though he didn’t want to leave.
“Why can’t we be together twenty-four seven?” he whispered, though it sounded more like a whimper.
I smiled and motioned for him to go.
We actually hadn’t slept together yet because I wanted the marriage to happen first.
He understood that. In fact, he respected it.
I didn’t want to create a bond that was based solely on physical needs.
And I suppose he admired that.
The moment he walked out the door, I turned to Elara and stared at her in silence.
I watched the way she looked at me.
She seemed terrified.
Her hands were practically trembling.
I approached her and knelt down, meeting her gaze.
I knew Elgin had told her to inform him about everything that happened here.
Of course, he said he trusted me, but this was only the beginning.
He didn’t want to take any risks, and I understood that.
“I’ll have a room prepared for you. For now, you can stay in my bedroom.”
I rose to my feet and motioned for one of my maids to come forward and take Elara to my room.
I didn’t show the child any affection, even though I knew she craved a woman’s touch at that moment.
Someone to hug her and make her feel safe.
Once she was gone, I turned and made my way to the third and final floor of my mansion.
When I arrived, I smiled.
“So you really are marrying Elgin?” she asked, sitting on the sofa and shaking her head in disbelief.
I sighed and straightened my shoulders.
“Why not?d’ve been lonely for quite
some time now,” I said with a

months.
She nodded, but she still looked disappointed.
few
I could tell she hated Elgin.
“Why is that little piece of shit here?”
Her tone turned especially harsh when she mentioned Elara.
I reached the window and looked outside.
“This is my mansion. She can stay here for as long as she wants,” I replied calmly.
Then she rose from the couch and followed me, stopping directly in front of me.
“You know she’s the daughter of the man who hurt your brother.”
She spoke harshly, bringing up her son, my brother, as tears gathered in her eyes.
“And the moment Bodhi sees her, she’ll recognize him. Then she’ll run back and tell Elg everything. She
tell him where she found me and what I’m doing here.”
She grunted.
“What will you say to him then?”
All of her questions only made me smile.
I wanted her to see that I wasn’t afraid of the consequences.
I’d already made my plans.
So I gave her a reassuring smile.
“You don’t need to worry about
anye
own for a
Mother. I’ve been on met
long time, and I’ve never failed.”
As soon as I said that, her expression began to soften.
She trusted my judgment because she knew what I’d endured. After all, it wasn’t easy having Lady Eugenia as your mother.
