Chapter 796
Yuvonne:
Being back outside felt really good, but at the same time, I had to watch the woman who had been living in my mother’s body get taken away after she was arrested.
The worst part was that she was going to remain in prison looking exactly like my mother.
Sadly, because of her, I never got the chance to see my father again.
After she was transferred into my mother’s body, she started poisoning him.
Of course, she didn’t want to spend her life with an old man like him, and she wanted to get rid of him.
So she chose what she thought would be the easiest way, taking the same route many others had taken before her, only to end up in prison.
My father passed away just hours before I got out.
“Are you okay?” Ron asked, wrapping an arm around me.
“I’ve been better,” I murmured, hugging him back as we made our way home from the burial.
There hadn’t been a big funeral for my father because Ron was still a rogue, and so was I.
Nala had been generous enough to let us stay in her clan.
But the problem was that the monster had disappeared, and so had Madeline.
Since she had been taken into the human world, we weren’t even sure if she was still alive.
We just got a news that the unconscious researcher was back.
We had no idea whether the humans would let her live.
She was a gray wolf, after all.
We arrived at Rosetta’s mansion and found her standing in the garden, holding her phone to her ear.
Byron had refused to leave her mansion, and there seemed to be a silent agreement between the two of them because Rosetta hadn’t asked him why he was still staying there either.
“Okay. Well, I told you to chain that person up in the basement of the mansion whose address I gave you. Did you do it?” she questioned whoever was on the other end of the call while I waited to speak with her.
When that monster has arrived, that’s when humans had also told us that their researcher showed up unconscious.
Meanwhile, Byron came outside holding two cupcakes.
The minute he saw us, he immediately pulled his hands back.
“Seriously? You’re trying to woo her?” Ron teased, approaching him and slapping a hand against his forehead.
“No. I just baked some cupcakes for her,” Byron muttered, lowering his eyes to the pink apron he was wearing.
He immediately tried to take it off while Ron laughed at him.
“Don’t do that. So what if he’s wearing an apron?” I scolded Ron, eyeing him.
“No, it’s just that he always acted like such a big, bad boy,” Ron remarked.
“Well, pink doesn’t make anyone less scary.” I warned him with my eyes not to put labels on people.
He immediately raised his hands. “I know, I know. But why are you baking for her?” “Well, she’s lived a pretty dark life, so I decided to bring some color into it,” Byron explained with a cheeky grin.
No wonder he was wearing a white shirt and blue pants, anything but black.
Rosetta, on the other hand, was still dressed in a black gown.
When she ended the call, she turned toward us and gave us a nod in greeting
before her eyes softened at the sight of Byron.
“Who’s chained up in the basement?” I asked.
Byron stepped forward and handed Rosetta one of the cupcakes.
He then offered the others to Ron and me.
I accepted mine because, well, let’s be honest, Byron seemed too shy to eat in front
of us now.
He was trying to act humble about the whole thing.
“The humans contacted the werewolves two days ago and told us they had captured a monster, a Lycan. So I gave them my mother’s address and told them to chain him up in the basement. It’s the most secure mansion I’ve heard of, Rosetta explained. Contént belongs
The way she phrased that made me notice something.
What did she mean by ‘heard of?’
Hadn’t she lived there before deciding to come here?
Or at least before she was transferred into someone else’s body?
She had told us all about Lady Eugenia’s actions, how Baxter’s sister had gone out, been killed by some people, and then been transferred into someone else’s body. But whose body?
We needed to ask her.
She had said her mother somehow got her hands on a child, but now Rosetta was trapped here for reasons I still couldn’t figure out.
If she thought we wouldn’t notice simply because she refused to talk about it, she was wrong.
Ron had recently pointed something else out to me, Rosetta never seemed to leave a certain area.
“Wait. So the humans contacted us and brought a monster here?” Ron asked.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah. I thought the same thing. At first, I thought they had sent Madeline back, but it’s not her. It’s some man. That’s how we also found out about Madeline too. In fact, some of the council leaders are saying he’s been here before. They’re still checking the details. Since most of the counet leaders are gone, they don’t know much. But
I guess we’ll know more once
someone visits him,” Rosetta explained.
As expected, Rosetta immediately made it clear that she wouldn’t be the one visiting him which only strengthened my suspicion that she couldn’t leave a certain boundary.
“Do you want me to visit him?” Ron offered.
“Yeah, that would be helpful.” She gave him a small pout.
“But wait. If they could send that Lycan back here, then that means if we let them know they have a gray wolf, they’ll send Madeline back too, right?” Byron questioned.
His words made us all look at one another before Rosetta’s phone beeped again.
“Wait a minute,” she requested, excusing herself as she brought the phone to her
ear.
“Okay. Okay. Okay.”
She listened silently for a moment before ending the call.
“It seems the human world has a new president, and he wants to-” She paused.
“He sent us a letter.”
Rosetta spoke calmly, leaving the rest of us to silently wonder whether the werewolf
land wasn’t the only ones going through sudden changes.
Something was happening in the human world as well.
