Chapter 817
Livia:
“What is going on with you? I called for you,” my mother complained, holding a small bag in her hand as she packed her medicine for the trip.
“Why are you sweating?” my mother asked, reaching for my forehead.
I stepped back from her and turned my head toward Madeline.
I didn’t know why, but Madeline looked shocked, or maybe just lost.
“Mother,” I uttered, keeping my eyes on Madeline.
My mother followed my gaze, and I heard her gasp.
“That’s the president’s wife,” I said, pointing at Madeline.
However, my mother was eerily silent, far more silent than I’d expected her to be.
I’d expected her to immediately ask Madeline to leave or be afraid that the president’s wife was here to cause us trouble.
I looked at my mother and then back at Madeline before stepping between them to shield my mother from her view.
“Please, I’d ask you to leave. If you have any questions, I’ll come to the office tomorrow and answer them,” I told Madeline as she slowly got up from the couch. There was a little more emotion in her eyes than I’d anticipated.
She started walking toward me, and I began to panic.
“Who is that?” Madeline asked as she stopped in front of me, pointing toward my mother.
I reached behind my back to hold my mother still, but she kept trying to come out from behind me.
“That’s—that’s my mother,” I told her. “Please leave, Madeline. I don’t want things to turn bad between us,” I pleaded.
My heart was thumping so hard in my chest that I felt like it was going to burst right out.
“One second. Just let me talk to her once,” Madeline requested as she tried to take my hand and pull me aside.
I knew how strong she was.
But what she didn’t know was that I wasn’t that weak either.
If I took off my pendant, I’d have a wolf so different that even she would be shocked.
Of course, her husband was the strongest. He was an alpha. Then there was another powerful man, Sawyer, who was a lycan.
And then there was Madeline. I’d
heard she had a powerful wolf,
though I wasn’t sure if her rank was I beta or gamma. I hadn’t really heard anyone talk about her wolf in detail, Only Daniel wasnt even sure how? much medicine she was taking to silence it.
All I knew was that she didn’t belong in the human world.
But neither did I.
However, if she used her power, I would have to do everything I could to save my mother.
“Please, Madeline, don’t make it harder for me. I’ll come to your office in the morning and answer all your questions.”
I started slowly pushing Madeline out of my house.
“I just need to have a moment with her, Livia.” Madeline’s voice turned harsh, and I immediately stopped touching her.
I realized she was getting angry. I mean, her husband would kill me if he found out I’d disrespected her.
“Please, please,” I repeated, closing
Qu
my eyes. “I respect you a lot, so please wait for me until tomorrow I’ll come to your office, and I’ll answer every question you have. But you will not ask me any questions while standing in my home in front of my mother, requested in a stern tone, watching Madeline’s eyes start to water.
She looked behind me, and now she could see my mother because I’d left her
farther behind while trying to get Madeline out.
I noticed the way Madeline stared at my mother, her eyes full of tears. I just didn’t understand why.
There was this unspoken tension between them.
Then Madeline turned, lowered her head, and walked out of the apartment.
I immediately rushed over and locked the door before turning around to look at my mother.
“Everything is fine,” I told her with a smile.
However, my mother was still staring at the empty space Madeline had left behind. “Bring her back in.”
My mother’s voice was so heavy with emotion when she made the request that I frowned at her.
“No, Mother, you don’t have to do that. We don’t have to bring her in,” I told her. But my mother shook her head again.
“Bring her in,” she repeated, causing goosebumps to rise on my skin. “Mother, she’s gonna ask you questions,” I told my mother as she rushed toward me
and then past me, placing her hand on the door handle.
“Let her come in. I have all the answers for her.”
I didn’t know why, but my mother said it with so much conviction that I had no choice but to listen to her and let back in the same woman d been running from for the past hour.
