Chapter 871
Eugenia:
I was extremely excited for Friday evening.
It would finally be my chance to show everyone just how good Sawyer could be for the werewolf lands.
He had already begun planting ideas in the pack members’ minds against humans, telling them that humans were cunning and that opening their borders and trying to communicate with us was only part of a larger plan to eventually attack.
He had also told me that humans had stolen several of our secret documents before leaving.
We used that information too, except it wasn’t even a rumor. It was true.
We told everyone that the humans wanted to learn everything they could about werewolves so that when they eventually attacked and tried to take our lands, they could use our weaknesses against us.
A lot of werewolves already disliked humans.
And really, was that surprising?
Werewolves looked down on omegas simply because of their lower rank, let alone humans, who didn’t even have wolves.
So it wasn’t difficult to plant fear and distrust among the werewolves, especially the idea that the humans might be planning something deadly.
After seeing the gun, my hopes rose even higher.
It felt like we were one step closer to victory.
“What’s that?”
A voice suddenly came from beside me, making my body jolt.
I quickly placed the gun back inside the box and shut it.
“Bodhi, when did you wake up from your nap?” I asked.
He stood near me with his head lowered, scratching at the corner of the cushion with one finger.
He had lost his spark.
He barely spoke to anyone anymore.
I remembered what Bodhi had been like before. He used to remind me so much of Baxter as a child.
But now, he reminded me of Baxter after he had convinced himself that his sister’s death was his fault.
Seeing Bodhi like that weighed heavily on me.
“Is that a toy?” Bodhi asked, finally lifting his beautiful eyes toward me.
“No, my grandchild. It’s for your daddy,” I replied, gesturing toward Sawyer.
Sawyer merely raised an eyebrow.
Ever since Bodhi had arrived, Sawyer had made little effort to communicate with him or grow closer to him.
That alone told me that whatever love I felt for Bodhi because of my son was not the same kind of love Sawyer felt for him.
To Sawyer, Bodhi was simply his wife’s bastard child.
To me, he was our world.
He was my next Baxter.
That was why I hated every time Sawyer ignored him.
“He’s not my daddy,” Bodhi hissed before immediately lowering his gaze.
I turned toward Sawyer and noticed his expression.
Then I understood why Bodhi had looked down so quickly.
Sawyer had likely bared his canines at him.
“Can you do something about this
child?” Sawyer snapped. “Take him
away
Fake him for a walk or
something. Just get him out of
here.” .

He made a dismissive gesture with his hand, clearly expecting me to take Bodhi
away.
“Come on, Bodhi. Let’s go for a walk
near
ewoods, okay? Wher
want to go I told him, taking his
hand.

I stood and scoffed at Sawyer before walking away with Bodhi.
“You know, I don’t like that man,” Bodhi admitted once we started nearing the woods.
“It’s all right. Everything will be fine i

a few days, okay?” I reassured him, gently touching his cheek as we continued walking. Content belo
Then I held his hand again and absentmindedly kept moving forward.
He reminded me of my son.
He felt like my son.
I didn’t know why, but lately, I had been missing Baxter more than ever.
And it was as if the devil had heard me, because the moment I lifted my eyes, something seemed to shift.
Someone was standing behind a tree, completely still.
My eyes widened as I stopped dead in my tracks.
I released Bodhi’s hand and rubbed my eyes, trying to make sense of what I was
seeing.
The man behind the tree looked familiar.
He looked exactly like Baxter.
I blinked several times, but no matter how often I did, the man was still standing
there.
A moment later, I watched him smile at me.
I gasped, clutching my chest.
How was this possible?
How could my son be standing right in front of me, behind that tree?
“My son?” I whispered.
My body began to tremble while Bodhi became distracted by the butterflies fluttering around him.
“Grandma, look! There’s a beautiful blue butterfly.”
Bodhi’s voice seemed to fade into the distance as my eyes filled with tears.
It really was my son.
Then I watched him turn and walk away.
I immediately rushed after him, running through the woods and weaving between
the trees as I followed him.
Eventually, I reached a majestic-looking place.
But what shocked me most was seeing Baxter there, sitting in a chair and watching
me.
