Chapter 813
Madeline:
I noticed that she had dropped my bag onto the ground and was now clutching the strap of her own bag, twisting it around in her fist.
I kept watching her. She looked so anxious.
“Livia, I’m not going to hurt you. You just need to tell me, do you have a wolf?” I asked, trying to approach her so I could place my hand on her shoulder, but she sidestepped, making me pull my hand back.
“I need to go home, please,” she requested again, this time more sternly.
“Mommy!”
The sudden interruption came from my children, who had returned with their babysitters.
“Yeah, we’re here,” Livia called out.
I stared at her, shocked by how desperately she was trying to get away from me.
And she knew exactly what she had done.
She had called out to my children so they would come to me and keep me occupied. And that was exactly what happened.
Gina and Elara immediately rushed into the hallway and ran toward me, hugging me and telling me everything they had done at the playground and how many friends they had made.
While they surrounded me and I had to look away from Livia, she quickly slipped away.
I didn’t stop her. No.
She was a friend. I didn’t want to make her feel like I was trying to get her arrested.
I just wanted to know what was going on. I wanted to help her.
And I didn’t know why, but the way she rushed away made me worry about her.
I squatted down in front of my children, hugging them tightly before lifting them both into my arms.
They immediately started chattering in my ears about the new friends they had made and all the games they had played, and I responded with just as much excitement.
I settled them down in the lounge and gave them my undivided attention, even though the worry in my heart for Livia kept growing, which was very strange.
After everything that had happened, I really didn’t care that much about strangers anymore.
I mean, of course I cared on some level, but not to the extent that I would feel this much anxiety over their safety.
With Livia, though, it felt like I had known her forever.
Thankfully, Baxter and Daniel showed up.
The minute Baxter did, I got up and gave my children a smile.
“Why don’t you go and tell your
daddy? Mommy has some work to do, okay?” I said to my children, who, nodded before rushing over to
Baxter.

It was clear from Baxter’s eyes that he had realized something had happened and that I was trying to leave because I needed to resolve it.
“What is going on?” Baxter asked as he crouched down and picked up both Gina and Elara.
“Nothing. I just have to go and discuss some things with Livia,” I said to Baxter.
My eyes moved to Daniel, who looked down and then turned his face away at the mention of her.
“How about I change, and then I’ll join you?” Baxter offered.
However, I gently held up a hand. “No, I’m kind of in a rush,” I insisted, stepping away almost immediately.
I could tell Baxter didn’t like that I wasn’t including him in everything, but he had to understand that he needed to include me in his secrets if he expected me to include him in mine.

I quickly got into my car and started following Livia, keeping a good distance
because I didn’t want her to know I was behind her.
I had to find her, though it was quite difficult. I even had to text my manager to get her address.
The thing was, we had never talked about where she lived.
So this was the first time I was going to her place, and it turned out she lived in a very luxurious condo on one of the top floors.
She got out of her car while I parked quite far away. Then I followed her inside.
I kept behind her, making sure she didn’t see me, even though it was a bit difficult because she kept looking back to check her surroundings.
When she reached her floor, I lingered around the stairs while she took the elevator. Finally, I heard the ding.
I rushed upstairs and saw her standing next to a door.
The minute she entered the code, I walked up behind her.
She opened the door, thinking she was the only one about to step inside, but the minute she entered, I pushed her forward just enough to gether out of my way and stepped into her condo. Content Belongs
It was as if I had caught her doing something illegal.
Her eyes were wide, and goosebumps had spread across her skin so visibly that
even I could see them.
