Chapter 826
Madeline:
“Wait, so she asked for Byron? To take Byron in and help him?” my mother asked me, and I nodded.
“I remember vividly. She said that she could help adults while I could help the children.”
My eyes shifted toward Livia, who shared a very scared glance with her mother.
“And I can take care of any sick people who are in a coma. All I have to do is mix my blood with the medicine you prepared, Madeline. That’s how I was able to help both Baxter and Sawyer wake up,” Livia explained.
Then she smiled brightly.
“Does that mean I’m special too?” she asked.
The fact that she even had to ask was really sad.
“You are special,” I told her, giving her a comforting smile.
But then I straightened my back and clasped my hands in my lap.
We were sitting at the dining table, and all the food smelled amazing. I didn’t even know how much I’d eaten.
Baxter, however, had eaten like a beast.
“I have very strong suspicions about Rosetta now,” I mumbled as realization started to strike me.
Why would a random woman come to help me? Of course she had a motive.
She was related to me.
The fact that we’d been so close, yet I hadn’t hugged her, made me feel guilty.
But it also made me question whether she’d known all along.
Another set of tears seemed to form in my mother’s eyes.
“Why are you crying?” I asked her, getting up from my chair, scooting closer to her, and wrapping one arm around her.
“Because until yesterday, I still wasn’t sure where my two daughters were, and today, I seem to have found my family,” my mother expressed happily, causing both Baxter and me to look at Livia and my mother with nothing but love and affection.
We discussed everything.
The possibility that Rosetta might have known all along was the most painful part. How could she remember? It didn’t seem like she’d had anyone.
“Okay, we really need to go home now before my wolf wakes up,” Baxter said, snapping his fingers at me.
I nodded before turning around and hugging my mother tightly.
“Very soon, we’ll live together,” I told my mother.
After saying goodbye to my mother and sister, I left the mansion with Baxter.
When we arrived home, Baxter had to rush upstairs because he had a lot of thoughts running through his mind.
We had to give him a small dose of medication to calm him down.
At the same time, when his wolf wakes up, Baxter had to fight a harsh internal battle
to keep his wolf from finding out what we had planned behind his back.
Once Baxter woke up, I realized he was no longer going to pretend that he was in love with me because of his wolf.
Meanwhile, I sat my children down and told them all about their grandmother and their aunt.
“We have an aunt?” Gina asked.
Every time I heard her voice, I thanked God for bringing her back to me.
Her voice was like a melody, one I’d thought I would never hear again.
“Yes, and they’re going to come tomorrow to meet you,” I said gently, cupping her cheek and kissing her forehead.
“What about Grandma? Is she nice,
or is she like our other grandma, who wasn’t very nice?” Elara complained, folding her arms across her chest as she mentioned Lady Eugenia.
“She’s nothing like her,” I told her, running my hand through her hair.
“Also, kids, tomorrow, werewolves are coming over. So I want you guys to play in your room and not interact too much with anyone because we don’t know who they are told. them, setting a few rules and
warning them to be careful.
This alpha and luna coming over with their own demands was kind of scary.
I wondered what they were going to say.
I had no clue what Sawyer was doing in the werewolf world either.
What if he’d been set free and hurt people, and now the werewolves were angry that
we’d sent a monster their way?
There were a lot of possibilities.
“Now go and play in your room, okay?” I told them.
They both looked so happy. When they hugged me before leaving, I felt like I was
the luckiest mom alive.
After they disappeared, out came none other than Baxter.
“Where were you?” I asked him. “You slept for hours. Are you okay?”
I pretended I still didn’t know that his wolf was lying to him about Kaylee.
“Yeah, after I found out that the things I know aren’t exactly what I thought they used
to be,” Baxter replied, not looking up at me.
That was what he’d decided, and
he’d already told me about it. He
would try to avoid looking at
me
because, according to him, his heart
melted whenever he saw me.
Just the thought of it made me blush.
“What?” he snapped, still playing the part.
“Nothing. I should bring out the food,” I said as I got up and walked toward the
kitchen.
“Or how about you bring out the one you’re hiding from me?”
I stopped in my tracks dramatically and turned around to meet his gaze.
“Who are you talking about?” I asked, watching him clench his jaw.
“Kaylee is in the basement, isn’t she?”
The minute he asked me that question, I pretended to gasp.
