Chapter 866
Byron:
Spending a few hours with Nina made me realize how much I missed Rosata.
There was no one like her.
Nina was a complete brain-drain. I wouldn’t flirt with her even if I were single.
She was definitely not my type, not even close. She was the kind of person who tried way too hard.
And now, we were heading to her father’s place.
The reason was simple. She wanted to get there before the werewolves left for human territory because, according to her, everyone was distracted by them.
I also knew why she was suddenly so confident about going to her father’s secret hideout. She figured that if anyone tried to follow her or come after her, I, the alpha, would be able to fight them off.
Well, I let her believe that.
Truthfully, I didn’t even have a phone to inform anyone. We were just going to follow the plan we had already made.
When we arrived, she led me through some weird-ass woods and toward an open hatch. We climbed down the stairs together.
Oh my God.
The smell was horrible.
No wonder her father had been staying down here all this time, cooking, using the bathroom, doing God knew what else.
The moment we reached the bottom, we found a filthy old man.
I didn’t understand it. Sure, he was in hiding, but he could still clean up after himself. Wash his face. Brush his teeth.
He had been eating from plastic plates, and they were scattered all over the place.
“Who is it?” her father asked.
Nina didn’t seem bothered by the smell or the mess.
She smiled and walked over to him, probably because her sense of smell wasn’t nearly as sharp as mine.
Because of her crippled wolf.
Meanwhile, I was dying.
“Father? You know how you’ve always wanted me to have a husband who would love me for who I am?” she began dramatically, tearing up as she pressed a hand to her chest.
Her father stared back at her with the same dramatic tears gathering in his eyes.
“Well, guess what happened?” she murmured, pointing at me. “An alpha came into the human world and felt a mate bond with me.”
Even the way she spoke to her father was ridiculously dramatic.
I felt like I’d somehow walked into a movie.
“What? Are you serious?”
Her father’s eyes widened, and honestly, it was almost funny how easily I could read his thoughts. could practically see his mind racing as he imagined how much their lives were about to change.
“Yes, Father. Let me tell you what we’ve planned,” she insisted, making him sit down.
She did that all the time. Whenever she wanted to explain something to someone, she would dramatically make them take a seat first.
I stayed quiet as she told her father the entire story she had concocted.
According to her version, I had somehow been involved in this grand plan to take over, though I couldn’t remember ever telling her it was my plan too.
Still, she made it sound as though her alpha boyfriend had come up with everything.
Her father kept nodding along, his mouth stretching into that weird, annoying, cocky smile.
“I always knew you were special.”
Those were the first words he managed after listening to her ramble.
“Okay, so what are we going to do now?” her father asked.
“Because, daughter, as much as I liked the idea of guarding the stamp and the keys, I’m getting annoyed now,” he added.
She gave him an understanding pout.
“Father, grab the files, the stamp, and the keys. We no longer need to stay hidden in here.”
She rose confidently, chin held high.
Then her eyes landed on me, and she smiled.
“My mate and I are going to call a conference, and we’ll present them with the keys. We’ll tell them that both the keys and the stamps are with us Byron will officially become the new president,” she declared.
I just kept staring at her.
“And only Byron, you, and I will know how to get to this hatch. Once he becomes president, we’ll move the weapons, medicine, and everything else to different locations that only we know about. That way anyone. who needs help, aid, or soldiers will have to come to Byron.”
She lifted her chin even higher.
“All in all, we’ll make the humans understand that they’re dependent on Byron.”
She was spouting a bunch of nonsense, and I really just wanted to go home.
Until she said something that actually resonated with me.
“Because sometimes, Father, you have to go to extremes to show what you truly
want. To prove how badly you want something.”
Her words hit me hard.
I drew in a deep breath and nodded to myself as I realized what they meant.
I could do that too.
No, I had to.
I had to show Rosetta what she truly meant to me.
