Chapter 828
Baxter:
“Is this some kind of punishment from the Moon Goddess? Am I dead? Is this my personal hell?”
She had so many questions, and I was getting anxious as I tried to reach her.
Every time I got too close, she started pounding on the walls, hurting her knuckles.
“Why did she say that we would want revenge on her?” my wolf snapped again, ruining the moment as I tried to calm down the woman I loved while he rambled on about random stuff.
“Axe, didn’t you tell me what she’s been through? Of course she hates me now. Of course she believes we don’t love her.”
As I tried to make him understand, my wolf grunted.
“But why would we want revenge on her? Did you not hear that word?” he pressed.
I shook my head, approaching Kaylee and grabbing both her arms.
“Kaylee, I’m sorry, okay? I know my memories are gone right now, but I remember this much- I remember that I loved you.”
The minute I said it, she froze, her mouth hanging open in confusion.
“Wait, why the heck are you telling her that you’ve lost your memories? Some things are supposed to stay between you and me. And of course, Madeline knows, but Kaylee doesn’t have to know,” Axe complained.
The agitation in his voice was annoying me, so I tried to shut him out and focus on Kaylee.
“You are alive?” she asked.
I noticed how dry her lips were. The poor woman, my poor lover, had been treated so badly.
“Have you fucking lost your mind, Baxter? Listen to yourself. You don’t even know if you loved her, and you’re acting like she’s your poor woman. And, oh, look at her dry lips,” my wolf mocked me.
“You were the one who told me she loved me and that we were in love. You wanted me to save her. What the fuck is wrong with you?” I grunted at him, not understanding where this was coming from or what he was talking about.
“Look, all I’m trying to say is that I was trying to tell you how evil Madeline is, not that you’re supposed to just save some woman.”
My wolf immediately shut up because he had nothing else to say.
Why wouldn’t I save this woman? I was in love with her.
“I don’t understand,” Kaylee uttered, her eyes moving around.
It was like if I didn’t explain to her what had happened, she would lose her mind and go completely crazy.
“The monster the same monster
who brought you from the werewolf world to the human world along with Madeline and my daughter Elara, brought me here too, and I survived. as I
Kaylee I’m not dead I said a
cupped her face my hands,
watching her eyes widen
Then her eyes slowly started to roll back into her head as she passed out from the shock.
“Kaylee,” I called, trying to wake her.
I called in the warriors, unlocked the shackles around her feet, and carried her in my arms as I rushed upstairs.
Madeline stood at the top of the stairs with her arms folded.
The anger in her eyes as she watched me carrying another woman was, to some extent, justified.
She could hate me all she wanted, but putting a woman in chains because I loved her was immoral.
“Well, do you think that’s the only reason she was keeping her in chains mean the things Kaylee was saying about revenge and all that it just seems-” my wolf began.
Then he shut up, and I groaned inwardly.
“Well, you were the one-.” I tried to speak, but he snapped at me.
“Yeah, I wanted you to know that Madeline isn’t innocent. I never asked you to carry this woman out of the basement in your arms,” he yelled back, making me shake my head. I didn’t really care whathe had
to say.
I took Kaylee to my bedroom and laid her down on the bed, calling the maids to
come and clean her wounds.
She had punched the wall so hard that her knuckles were red and swollen.
“She cannot stay in your bedroom,” Madeline demanded as she arrived.
The pain in her eyes made my wolf slowly calm down.
“On another note, it’s not that bad,” my wolf said, making me nod.
“You shouldn’t have done that, Madeline. You shouldn’t have done that,” I told her.
That was all I said before I turned around and pointed at Kaylee.
“She’s my responsibility now. I’ll take care of her. And you will have to live with that. Either you accept me as I am, with Kaylee, or-“
I paused, clenching my fist because, well, my wolf and I both knew that even if I was angry with Madeline right now, the truth was that I loved her.
But I couldn’t turn away from my responsibility.
“Well then, if you have options, so do I.”
