Chapter 775
Baxter:
There was something about Sawyer.
The more I looked at him, the more uneasy I felt.
When he had arrived, my wolf had acted strangely, as though he knew him.
There was a strange sense of guilt in my wolf’s voice whenever he spoke about Sawyer.
Then there was another problem.
For someone who was so openly vicious and hated almost everyone, my wolf didn’t hate Sawyer with the same intensity.
He barely ever lashed out at him.
That concerned me.
Right now, my wolf wasn’t in a state to be honest with me or anyone else.
So asking him anything wouldn’t get me anywhere.
Then Sawyer pulled his usual stunt.
He brought Livia in and made her stand right beside him, his arm wrapped around her tiny waist.
She looked even smaller than usual, and I found myself worrying for her.
I didn’t let it show on my face, but I knew Daniel did.
He immediately turned to look at me before shifting his gaze back to her.
She looked frightened, but also determined.
With her back straight, she stood close to him.
Daniel turned to me once again and whispered, “she shouldn’t be that close to him.”
My jaw clenched, my eyes fixed on Sawyer, my body ready to step in for her.
“We need to get closer to the stage,” I murmured to Daniel.
He gulped, looking back at Livia before meeting my eyes again.
It was obvious from Daniel’s body language that he was deeply worried about Livia.
This was the same person she had mocked, even if it had been unintentional, she had truly hurt him.
I couldn’t understand how someone could hurt another person so deeply.
Without caring about himself, the moment he saw her, he headed straight toward the stage.
I moved beside him.
“Stay right there! Don’t you dare come any closer to our president!” a guard shouted, pointing a finger at us.
Sawyer raised his hand, signaling for the guard to calm down.
“It’s okay. He should come to the stage, because this is where he’ll be arrested,” Sawyer remarked, sounding as cocky as ever.
From his body language, though, I could tell he was sweating.
Clear drops of sweat ran down from his temples.
That was proof that he had noticed something was changing in his body too.
“Come on, quick. Let’s get it over with,” Sawyer urged, motioning for his men to come forward with a curl of his fingers.
At the same time, he loosened his tie.
His other arm, however, remained tightly wrapped around Livia, as though he were warning us.
None of us said it out loud, but the way he kept urging us to hurry felt like a threat.

“Okay, that’s enough. Arrest him.”
Suddenly, Sawyer completely changed his plan.
He no longer wanted us to come onto the stage.
That’s when I noticed a vein in his neck begin to bulge.
He had realized he had been tricked.
The way he suddenly turned his head toward Livia, and the way she immediately avoided his gaze, made, it obvious that he knew she had deceived him.
I watched his fingers tighten around her waist.
Livia bit the inside of her cheek to keep herself from reacting to the pain.
“We’ll have to let them arrest us,” I told Daniel, and he nodded immediately.

The moment I raised my hands in surrender, the guards rushed toward Daniel and
me.
For a second, I thought everything was going exactly as planned.
Then someone screamed.
It wasn’t a frightened scream. It was a scream of agony.
Every head turned toward the stage.
Sawyer staggered backward, his grip around Livia’s waist tightening so suddenly that she gasped.
His face twisted as though every bone beneath his skin had decided to move at once.
“What the—” he rasped, finally realizing he hadn’t been given a repressor, but a trigger.
A thick vein pulsed along the side of his neck, swelling until it looked ready to burst.
His free hand flew to his throat.
“No!” His voice cracked.
The guards who had been charging toward us froze in their tracks.
The entire theater fell silent.
Sawyer stumbled again, almost dragging Livia down with him.
She caught herself before she could fall, but he refused to let go.
His fingers dug deeper into her side.
“Baxter,” Daniel whispered to me.
“I know. I’m watching him,” I replied, keeping my eyes on Sawyer.
Every breath he took sounded as though it were scraping against his lungs. He looked so beastly.
