Chapter 849
Byron:
I was surprised, but I should have guessed it already.
After Rosetta left, she returned to the mansion a short while later.
Nala had already gone with Mathew, and I was alone at the mansion.
I was going through some things related to my pack. I’d had the old reports brought to me.
I didn’t know how I was going to face my former best friend after he’d betrayed me
so badly, but I knew he wasn’t handling the pack well.
The pack was in chaos.
It had already split into two groups. One supported him, while the other still supported me.
After some time, I heard that even the group on his side had become disappointed in him because, after all, he wasn’t an Alpha by rank.
He was having a lot of trouble because of that.
But when I saw Rosetta, even I became a little confused.
“Didn’t you guys leave?” I asked as I got up from my chair.
The way she walked in, rubbing her hands anxiously, gave me all the answer I needed.
“No. I thought I’d stay,” she replied, trying to move past me, but I immediately stepped in her way.
“Tell me the truth. Why didn’t you leave?” I demanded.
It wasn’t because I wanted to convince myself that she’d stayed for me. I knew that wasn’t the case.
We’d all had our suspicions about Rosetta, especially because she never left her land to go anywhere else.
“Well, that’s because I can’t leave,” she uttered, making me frown at her.
“So you were telling the truth?” I asked carefully, keeping my voice casual. She took a deep breath and nodded.
“I don’t know how much you already know, but it’s true. I can’t leave.”
After that, she told me everything. Literally everything.
And I felt terrible for her.
However, I still couldn’t understand why she’d hidden it from me.
“Well, you know what? That’s all right. If we can find solutions to all the other messes, we can definitely find a solution to this problem too,” I said, giving her a smile.
“I’ll go get some rest.”
However, instead of staying with me, she decided to walk away.
Over the past few days, we’d gotten physical. And I mean, it was the best sex ever.
Just kissing her could get me so turned on that I started losing

Okay, I’d been in love before. But with Rosetta, it was different.
I liked Rosetta a lot. More than I’d probably ever liked anyone else.
The only problem was that she’d suddenly started pulling away from me.
“Why don’t we have a drink? What do you say?” I asked, smiling at her as I walked over to my cabinet.
However, she immediately shook her head.
“No, I’d like to rest,” she said, causing me to keep watching her face.
But she didn’t stick around. She just walked away.
I decided not to bother her for now, but at the same time, I intended to speak with her again later.
Hours passed, and she didn’t come out even at dinnertime.
I gave her some space, thinking maybe she was anxious or worried about her sister.
But when morning came, I’d
returned from my jog and taken
shower, only to realize that

refused to come out of her room
This time, it was too much for me.
I went to her door and started knocking, finally calling out to her.
“What is it?” she asked, opening the door.
“Come out. We need to talk,” I said sternly.
“No, we don’t,” she replied, trying to close the door.
I planted my hand against the door, stopping her from closing it and making it clear that she wasn’t going to avoid me this time.
“What is up with you?” I asked. “You’ve been distancing yourself from me. Is there something I should know?”
“No, but you tell me. Is there something I should know?” she asked, pointing at me.
I stared at her, even more confused.
“I’ll be honest with you, and I won’t beat around the bush,” she said.
I stood there with my hands on my hips, looking confident because, as far as I knew,
I hadn’t done anything wrong.
But when she started speaking, I realized the situation was messy.
“You’re only with me because I remind you of Madeline.”
She said it with complete confidence, as if she were certain.
“Huh?” I asked, shaking my head as if that would help me make sure I’d heard her
right.
“That’s the only reason. My whole
life, I’ve lived with the constant
reminder that my body doesn’t betong to me. Now I cant be with someone who doesn’t belong to me either,” she finished, a tear rolling down her cheek.
