Chapter 773
Baxter:
It was too late.
He had already arrived.
Daniel and I quickly pushed our way through the crowd, making our way toward the opposite corner.
Then Sawyer suddenly silenced the entire theater with a loud cough.
The moment he let out the powerful cough, every conversation came to an abrupt stop.
Everyone turned toward him.
Some of them recognized him immediately and quickly bowed their heads.
“President Sawyer,” the principal exclaimed in shock at the president’s unexpected arrival.
Silence settled over the theater.
Then the principal hurried onto the stage, his face lit with excitement.
“Everyone, please welcome our honorable guest, President Sawyer,” he announced into the microphone. “What a wonderful surprise. We had no idea you would be joining us tonight.”
The audience erupted into applause.
Students leapt to their feet, clapping enthusiastically as Sawyer made his way toward the stage.
He acknowledged them with a polite nod before taking the microphone from the principal.
As he stood on the stage in front of me, I couldn’t shake the feeling that he looked familiar.
I didn’t know why.
Maybe it was because I’d met him before.
Maybe it was because he was Madeline’s husband.
But had he ever been to Werewolf land?
Did we meet on the human land?
There was no way.
I wasn’t human.
I’d only just arrived here.
So what was going on?
Why did he look like someone I knew?
‘Axe, do you know him?’ I asked my wolf.
He only groaned and sealed his lips, just as I’d expected.
“First of all,” Sawyer began, his calm voice echoing through the auditorium, “I’d like
to congratulate every one of you on such a wonderful performance. It’s truly
impressive to see so much talent gathered in one place.”
His words earned another round of applause.
A faint smile touched his lips as the audience silently praised him.
Then Sawyer spoke again, and the entire theater fell silent.
“I’m afraid I’m not actually here to watch the performance.”
His expression hardened.
“Sadly, I’ve come here because there’s a werewolf among you.”
A wave of horrified gasps swept across the auditorium.
People immediately began looking around at one another.
Sawyer slowly reached into his coat and pulled out a photograph.
“There’s no need to panic,” he continued smoothly. “We already know who it is.”
He held the picture up for everyone to see.
At the same time, his guards spread through the theater, handing out copies to the audience.
My heart dropped.
It was me.
Within seconds, dozens of pairs of eyes lifted from their photographs and searched the crowd.
Then someone pointed.
“There!”
Another voice shouted, “He’s over there!”
The people nearest to me stumbled
away in panic, scrambling to cleare
path
though were carrying a
deadly disease.
The crowd split apart around Daniel and me.
Before I could react, I felt a sharp pinch in my back.
I tensed and glanced over my shoulder.
It was Daniel.
He quietly lowered the syringe into his sleeve.
Wolfsbane.
The realization hit me.
He’d injected me with wolfsbane.
And with that single injection, he had taken my wolf out of the equation.
I looked at Daniel, my eyes demanding an explanation, even though I knew
everyone else was watching me too.
Daniel simply shook his head, silently reassuring me to stay calm.
“There he is. Hiding among us. The beast among us,” Sawyer declared, narrowing his eyes from across the theater. Content Belongs
The crowd kept shrinking away from me, creating a wide gap between them and
me.
I could feel every pair of eyes fixed on me.
Then Daniel suddenly stepped in front of me and raised both his hands.
“Wait!”
His voice cut through the panic.
Everyone froze.
“I’m a doctor,” Daniel announced, pointing at himself. “And I’m telling you, this man
is not a werewolf.”
A wave of confused murmurs rippled through the audience.
Slowly, heads began turning toward their president.
Sawyer, on the other hand, looked visibly annoyed.
“Or perhaps,” Sawyer replied calmly, “this doctor is the one who’s been protecting a
werewolf all along.”
The moment those words left his mouth, the crowd turned on Daniel.
Angry voices erupted all around us.
“You’ve been helping him?”
“So you’ve been lying to us?”
Daniel didn’t flinch.
Instead, he kept both his hands raised.
“Actually,” he said, waiting for the room to quiet down, “I can prove that he isn’t a
werewolf.”
The moment he said that, I realized why he’d injected me with wolfsbane.
He knew this was the right moment to do it.
Before anyone could question him, I stepped forward.
“And we can also prove that there’s someone else among us who’s a far bigger
monster than a werewolf.”
Silence fell over the entire theater.
Every eye shifted to me.
Sawyer and I locked eyes from opposite ends of the room.
Neither of us looked away.
I could see the humans beginning to
lose their minds as they realized the very person they’d trusted to keep them safe had never actually been Safe at all.
Then, in a confident tone, I added, “Your president—”
I paused deliberately.
“Is a Lycan.”
The theater erupted with gasps and yelps.
