Chapter 794
Madeline:
“I cannot believe this, Baxter.” I grunted, slapping my forehead before pacing anxiously around the room.
“Why are you getting angry at me? It’s not like I did any of this on purpose. I lost my memories when I woke up,” he explained.
He told me that when he woke up, he couldn’t remember anything, and whatever information he had came from Elara.
“You could have told me, Baxter. You could have fucking told me,” I repeated, frustration tightening my voice.
I didn’t know why, but it all made sense now. Why he had been so distant.
But what upset me was the thought that all this time, whenever he had sex with me, he was just doing it for fun.
If he had no memories, then he definitely didn’t remember anything about me.
So how could he be so lovey-dovey with me?
“Listen, you need to calm down. I can tell you exactly what I’m feeling,” he insisted, trying to come closer.
Then I noticed him stop. It wasn’t because I had stopped him.
He immediately stepped back on his own.
“What is going on?” I demanded, watching his eyes narrow as realization crossed his face.
“Nothing,” he replied.
“Is there anything else you’re feeling that I’m unaware of?” I questioned, hoping that
at least now he would be honest with me.
But just like before, he didn’t answer. He remained silent.
“Baxter, I’m asking you something,” I pressed, my jaw clenching.
“It’s just― the mixture of things,” he muttered, running a hand through his hair.
He was only wearing shorts, and I was only wearing a bra and panties.
We wandered around the room, and honestly, my body heated up whenever he got a little too close to me.
That was why we kept a safe distance.
We needed to make our point and argue our sides.
More importantly, we needed to explain our feelings instead of getting heated and having sex again.
Then silence fell between us as I kept staring at his face.
“Fine, then. I know how to get the information out of you,” I declared, nodding my head slightly.
He caught the small movement, his brow furrowing as he tried to understand what I was about to say.
“I’m not going to take wolfbane in the morning.”
The minute I said it, he grunted and slapped his forehead, his other hand resting on his waist.
“Because when my wolf wakes up, she’ll sense whatever agitation you’re feeling,” I explained.
I realized that giving my wolf
wolfbat most of her powers in
check, which was why she hadn’t been able to fully enjoy her h mate’s scent or sense his agitation.
I watched Baxter’s expression change.
“You know that can be very risky. We’re going to have public meetings and everything. What if you

transition?” he questioned worriedly, placing both hands on his waiste
“So what if I do? That’ll be on you because you’re not telling me what’s wrong with you.”
As soon as I said that, Baxter threw his head back.
What came out of his mouth next seemed rushed, as if he had spoken in the heat of the moment.
“So, with Axe threatening me, now you’re going to threaten me with your wolf too?”
He paused, his entire body going still as his own words seemed to register. Axe? Threatening?
“What do you mean?” I asked softly.
He cleared his throat and scratched the back of his neck.
“I mean, that’s how he used to threaten me,” he clarified.
I watched his throat bob with a hard swallow.
That alone told me everything I needed to know.
“Baxter,” I said, my face tightening. “Is your wolf awake?”
A huge breath escaped me as the question left my mouth.
“Listen,” he began, clearing his throat repeatedly. “I-don’t-Don’t ask me anything. Just-“
His stuttering alone gave everything away.
I started shaking my head, a wide, disbelieving smile spreading across my face.
“Wow. So your wolf is awake too, and you hid that from me.”
The realization hit me hard because I remembered what it had been like when he’d lost his wolf.
It had been so difficult for both of us.
He’d lost so much of his confidence, and I’d thought he would never get his wolf
back.
But now he had his wolf and hadn’t even told me. He had deliberately hidden it from
me.
I just couldn’t understand how he
could have no memories and yet t
be doing all these sketchy thin
behind my back.

“I need to take a break. Please, just leave me alone,” I muttered, placing a hand on
my stomach.
I grabbed a long sweater that fell just above my knees, pulled it on, and hurried out
of the room.
I just needed some fresh air.
