Chapter 643
Madeline:
“Mommy, what are those noises?” Elara asked softly as she ran out of the cabin
again.
That was when my eyes shifted to the crowd gathered outside.
Leading them were Abigail and none other than Elgin.
Of course he had come.
I should have expected him to show up the moment he got the chance to attack me one last time.
And he did.
“Everybody inside!” I shouted, grabbing both my children while Ron pulled Lady Eugenia along with him.
The moment we reached the main door, I hurried the children inside, pushed Lady Eugenia in after them, then shut the door and turned to face the mob.
“We are not here to attack you, Alphas,” Lady Abigail declared, her voice carrying across the ground. “We only want the monster.”
I knew their apologies and requests for forgiveness had all been an act.
They had only been waiting for the right moment to take revenge for being forced to bow before me.
Their pride would never allow them to let that humiliation go.
“You’re not getting her, you monsters,” Ron hissed.
“And she’s not a monster,” Byron added in a harsh tone.
“Well then, if the two of you refuse to step away from her, we will sadly have to denounce you as alphas,” Lady Abigail warned.
Before she could continue, Ron let out a sarcastic chuckle that silenced everyone around us.
All eyes turned to him.
Then Ron rolled his shoulders and straightened his posture rigid as he faced them.
“Fuck you, your ranks, and your packs.”
The crowd gasped as though he had committed some unforgivable crime.
“No, don’t you fucking gasp!” Ron shouted. “Do any of you have any idea what those pack members did to my Luna?”
His voice cracked with fury.
“Do you know what she suffered while I was wrongfully locked behind bars? She was raped. She was blackmailed. Our baby was killed, and then she was murdered too. And after all that, she was not even allowed a cure.”
His chest rose sharply as he glared at them.
“And when her body was finally supposed to rest in peace, they tore it apart. They humiliated her. And now you want me to stand beside you and attack the only person who has ever been there for me?”
Every word Ron spoke brought tears to my eyes.
All of us had suffered so much, yet these people still did not seem to understand any of it.
My gaze swept through the crowd, searching for Lord William.
Why had he not come?
And why were Lord John and Lady Greta standing beside Lady Abigail like they were on the same side?
What the hell was going on?
“Well, we apologize for that,” Lady Abigail said in a calm, almost chilling voice.
I was surprised by how little remorse she sounded.
“I don’t fucking want your apology,” Ron snapped. “I’m not leaving my friend. And as
for the crown, I don’t fucking care. Take it.”
His jaw tightened as he glared at them.
“But I’m not showing up for any denunciation. You can take those rules and shove them up your ass.”
Ron fired the words back at them in a way I wished all of us had been brave enough to do.
The crowd looked horrified and disgusted.
And then there was Elgin.
He kept stealing glances at me, yet he could not meet my eyes even once. He knew exactly what kind of coward he was.
“What about you, Byron?” Lady
Abigail asked. “Are you willing t
lose your pack too? Your tonet
finally unbanned. It can thro
again
She was trying to manipulate him.
I did not understand why.
There were so many of them. Why were they so afraid of the two Alphas standing beside me?
Or were they afraid of me?
Did they want one of my own people to betray me and hand me over to them?
“I value friendship more than
crowns,” Byron said calmly. “So you
can keep that banned pack. It’s
it
useless to me anyway Give to Elgin for babysitting since he cares about it so much.”
The moment Byron mentioned Elgin, I saw Elgin’s body tense.
A frown formed on his forehead as his expression darkened with irritation.
“Well, I think they’ve made their decision. We should stop waiting now,” Elgin finally declared, making it clear which side he had chosen.
“And while all of you are attacking the monster and those two useless Alphas, make sure my daughter stays safe in there.”
The moment he called Elara his daughter, my throat tightened painfully.
To be honest, over the last few months, I had completely forgotten he was her
father.
In my mind, Baxter had become the only father of my children.
“No!” I screamed, stepping forward.
The second moved, everyone facing me, Lady Abigail, the council leaders the Alphas the warriors, instinctively stepped back as though they expected me to attack.
And that was when I realized it.
They were afraid of my wolf.
Because it was stronger than all of them.
