Chapter 729
Kaylee:
Everything had been going exactly the way I wanted.
Right before my eyes, Silver had been humiliated.
As her lies unraveled, she had no choice but to face the consequences.
Then, in an instant, my heart seemed to stop.
Just after the acceptance ceremony and the marking, before I could properly celebrate, everything changed.
Standing before me was the one person I had loved more than anyone else.
Graham.
I had no idea how he got there, why he came, or how long he had been waiting for this moment, but the second I saw him, everything changed.
The moment he stepped onto the stage, I recognized him from the way he walked.
In front of everyone, I remained in Elgin’s arms, but my eyes never left Graham.
I wanted to break free from Elgin’s embrace and run to Graham.
That was when I realized he was the one I truly loved.
But I had already lost him.
I had been too impatient, consumed by my hunger for power, luxury, and status.
I couldn’t even look into Graham’s eyes without feeling ashamed.
I had failed him.
I had become just as bad as Silver.
Even then, I knew Graham was going to be arrested, so there was nothing I could do.
I had chosen a safer life for myself.
A secure home.
But why did Graham look so confident? It was as though he already knew the game had shifted back in his favor.
“You’ve got the nerve to show up here,” Elgin said, slowly moving me behind him.
I clutched the back of his coat, but my arms slowly fell to my sides.
I wanted to be with Graham.
Why couldn’t Elgin be the one to disappear instead?
Graham was a far better man than Elgin.
I had seen the way Elgin had coldly cast Silver out of his life and how he treated his own daughter, Elara.
I didn’t like Elgin.
He was unpredictable.
Even sex with him was boring.
But I had no choice.
All I could do was stand there and watch Graham get arrested.
The warriors moved toward him, but he gestured for them to stop.
“On what grounds are you treating me like this?” Graham asked, narrowing his eyes.
“You know exactly what your crimes are. We also know that you harassed a woman,” Elgin replied, reminding him of everything he had done.
I remembered that I shouldn’t even love Graham.
He had raped Yuvonne, blackmailed her, and then gone on to do the same to Sherry.
He had confessed to everything on live television.
“Oh? Then what if I told you those women, along with Yuvonne’s husband, have
forgiven me? What then?” Graham asked.
The moment he said that, I slowly stepped away from Elgin.
I guess Elgin noticed because he immediately turned to look at me.
I was already looking back at Graham.
“That’s not possible,” Elgin said, his voice hard.
“Why not? That’s exactly what’s
happened. They’ve forgiven me, and
they’ll come here and tell you themselves. Then what?” Graham asked, folding his arms across his chest.
The warriors who had stepped forward to arrest him immediately backed away.
“Every single person I’ve wronged is ready to forgive me. That means I’m an Alpha again,” Graham said with a smirk.
My eyes burned with tears because if he could become an Alpha again, I wanted to be his Luna again.
Elgin looked at me again, then gestured for me to stand beside his mother.
I shook my head.
“Kaylee, don’t fucking ruin my mood. Go and stand with my mother,” he hissed, using his Alpha command to force me into submission.
“No!” I shouted, turning back to the crowd.
“I was only marrying you because—” I stopped when I looked at Graham.
“Graham, I swear I was only marrying him because I wanted to secure everything for you.”
The moment those words left my mouth, the entire crowd gasped.
Elgin looked as though he could kill me.
He grabbed my arm and yanked me back.
“What are you saying?” he hissed.
“Just fucking let me go,” I snapped, wrenching my arm free.
“You’re cold and callous. Why would I choose you over Graham? You humiliated Silver in front of everyone.”
I don’t know what came over me. But after seeing Graham walk in, I realized he wasn’t lying. He had been forgiven.
He was an Alpha again.
That meant I wanted to be with him.
He was the love of my life, not Elgin.
“So you fucking played me?” Elgin hissed, taking a step toward me before noticing
all the cameras focused on him.
“No, I didn’t play you. I showed up at
your donne
week ago. Did you
expect us to fall in love? Haval
you
lost your mamd?” asked
Some people in the crowd actually laughed at him.
I didn’t know why they found any of this entertaining. They were only provoking
these assholes even more.
My eyes drifted to Silver.
She had stopped crying.
She was simply watching Elgin, as though waiting for him to look at her.
I didn’t fucking care.
Their drama wasn’t my problem.
I looked back at Graham.
“I swear I was only keeping
everything safe so I could give it net
back to you when you returned,”
pleaded taking a storm.
“But you accepted him,” Graham replied.
For the first time, I saw the unresolved emotions in his eyes.
And I realized that if I could fix things between us, he might actually take me back.
