Chapter 253
The garage door had completely descended. It was frighteningly dark in the car. Angeline could not see the aggression in Sean’s eyes. All she could hear was the sound of their breaths.
Sean’s jaw was clenched tightly. He closed his eyes and forced himself to steady his breathing. Then he pushed the door open and carried Angeline out.
The motion-sensor lights in the garage flickered on, and he set her firmly down on the ground.
He grabbed his suit jacket from the passenger seat and shut the car door before entering his password on the digital lock pad and heading inside.
“I’ll have the driver send you home.”
Behind him, Angeline stopped in her tracks. She quickly ran after Sean and entered the elevator to go upstairs. She watched Sean call the driver and instruct him to drive to the villa’s front door.
Angeline’s hands tightened as she clasped them behind her back.
She inexplicably felt rather disappointed.
Perhaps it was because Sean had seemed to be so full of urgency in the parking lot of the Night
Palace, but now that they were at his house, he told her to go home instead.
Had she not been clear enough in her explanation, or had her rejection made Sean angry?
Or was Sean simply sick of her?
Before Angeline could think further, her phone rang. Sean glanced at it and tossed his suit jacket onto the sofa. He loosened his tie, removed his vest, and then headed to the kitchen to obtain water from the fridge.
Angeline saw that it was Ned’s number.
Her brow knitted. As she blocked him, a bottle of water appeared before her.
She looked up and saw Sean’s expressionless features. She took the water.
“Thanks.”
The car headlights outside the villa could be seen through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Sean said, “The car is here, and it’s late. You should go.”
Angeline gripped the water bottle firmly as she nodded.
“You mustn’t get your injured hand wet. Be careful.”
Sean watched her leave. He placed his glass on the table, then unfastened all the buttons on his shirt He headed upstairs, stood before his liquor cabinet, and poured himself a glass. He downed his drink in one gulp.
Angeline sat in the back seat of the car. Her head leaned against the car window as
she watched the vibrant lights of the streets of Krontos flash by.
She couldn’t understand what was going on with Sean.
Perhaps it was because she didn’t have much relationship experience, and her feelings with Ned had once been so intense. Ned had always been very forthright.
She had never had to guess his feelings.
Sean, on the other hand, was different.
Angeline felt like she did not really understand him.
In her eyes, Sean was always very lofty. No matter what he was doing, it always seemed effortless. His intellect and character were far beyond the average person, and he also had absolute control of his emotions.
She had never imagined that someone like Sean would lose control and beat
someone up. She thought it was unusual behavior for him.
He was an extremely cold and impassive person. However, when the two of them were alone, his honesty often flustered Angeline The possessiveness and forceful desire he exhibited sent chills running down her spine and made her feel like she was drowning.
He had practically devoured her while they were kissing last night and earlier before.
But last night, he hadn’t touched her further. He even said he wouldn’t go to her place before the birthday banquet.
Moments ago, he had only given her a bottle of water and then told her to leave. Angeline felt rather confused.
In the hospital, the doctor had to give Ned a sedative before he finally fell asleep.
Gregory’s face was injured, too. He sat beside the hospital bed watching Ned, whose brow was still furrowed tightly in his sleep.
Gregory glanced at the injury on his own arm and sighed.
Ned had lost his mind before and chased off his own fiancée, Ingrid. Not long after that, he had thrown a fit and insisted on leaving the hospital to go and look for Angeline.
Gregory suspected that Ned had regained his lost memories.
