Chapter 383
Robert had allowed Asher and Sandy to notify Angeline and Sean, but that was because things had been awkward between the three ever since he found out that they were dating.
He wanted to use this as a chance to ease the relationship between them.
“I heard that the Emmersons would do anything for money, Uncle Robert. If they were to know Angeline has acknowledged Jessica as her mother, wouldn’t they think that Jessica is her biological mother? They would check the timing and see that it matches.
“Would Benjamin also think that he’s part of the Lawson family and come to look for his mother? Even if Jessica isn’t their biological mother, he might come and harass her anyway. After all, that’s what their family is like… If they harass Jessica, it might trigger her again, right?”
Helen faltered slightly when she saw that Robert remained silent. All he did was take a sip of his tea.
“Uncle Robert, do you really not care at all?” Helen picked up her bag and smiled as she said, “Since you don’t care, I’m sure it’ll be fine for me to sell this news to the media. I’ll also tell the Emmersons that Angeline has been adopted by the Lawsons. If the Emmersons get on a TV show to talk about this, then Lawson Global and the Lawson family will become famous.”
Seeing that Robert wasn’t stopping her, Helen got up and pretended to leave. At that moment, she saw Sean and Angeline come in.
Helen’s gaze fell upon Angeline. She crossed her arms, looking confident. “I’m glad to see that both of you are back! Since Uncle Robert refused to make a decision, you should do it, Angeline. Do you want me to tell your family that you’ve been adopted by the Lawsons? I’ll also reveal to them the fact that the time when Jessica was found matches the time when your dead mother escaped. Would you rather let the Emmersons come knocking on the Lawsons’ door, or would you rather give me the marketing department manager position?”
Angeline understood what Helen was trying to say. She didn’t seem to know that Jessica was Angeline’s biological mother. Angeline pursed her lips and said nothing as she waited for Helen to continue.
“Angeline, I’m sure you wouldn’t want Uncle Robert to get into trouble just because he adopted you! You know what Jessica’s condition. If the Emmersons come and trigger her and something happens to her—”
Before Helen could finish, Angeline slapped her across the face.
Helen clutched at her face and stared at Angeline in disbelief. “Angeline! Are you crazy? How dare you hit me!”
Angeline’s expression was as black
as thunder. “Helen, there are some things I can put up with and some that I cant you graduated from one of the best universities in Marvonia with top grades. How could you resort to such despicable means like kidnapping children and slandering people to achieve your goal?”
Helen’s eyes flickered when she heard Angeline talk about kidnapping children. She
took a step back. “That coward, Ned, told you!”
Angeline took one step forward and glared at her. “The voice recording is with me. Do you want to listen to it? Do you want me to hand it over to the police instead? A kidnapping attempt will result in a lighte
sentence compared to an actual
kidnapping, but you’ll have a criminal
record… Do you think your fiance in
Marvonia will still marry you?”
“What are you trying to do?”
“What am I trying to do? I’m just telling you about the law!” Angeline looked intently at Helen. “If you’re going to work with the Emmersons to slander the lawsons and tarnish my mother’s name, Iff show you how it feels to lose everything. Never underestimate a woman’s determination to protect their
children and their family.”
Helen admitted that she was terrified by the frightening and cold energy that
Angeline exuded. She turned on her heels and left.
