Chapter 747
Chapter 747:
At that moment, his phone buzzed in his pocket. He glanced at the screen; it was his friend calling. Giffard looked outside. He was in a remote mountain area, with the institution at its base and faint commotion still rising from below.
After a short pause, he answered the call.
“Giffard!” The voice on the other end trembled with urgency. “Do you know what happened? That institution you’ve been visiting—there’s been an incident p>
Giffard furrowed his brow, masking his amusement with feigned shock. “What do you mean? What happened p>
“No one’s sure yet, but word is there was a theft,” his friend said. “The thief made a complete mess of the place, and they still don’t know what was taken p>
Lowering his eyes, Giffard allowed himself a small smile. This was exactly as he had planned. He had known it was impossible to cover every track, so he had deliberately caused chaos and taken other files as distractions. They would have no idea which document was truly his target. After all, that records room contained not only Vivian’s file but many others, along with confidential papers.
“Giffard… could this have anything to do with you?” his friend asked carefully. “You’ve been going there a lot lately p>
Giffard let out a low laugh. “What are you saying? I only came across this institution after arriving in this country. I’m interested in their new projects, and they’ve never stopped me from visiting. Why on earth would I have to steal anything p>
Even if people pointed fingers at him, without proof, no one could claim he was the culprit. He had made his preparations well, staying out of the reach of cameras. Though he carried an injury, not a single drop of his blood was left behind as evidence.
His gaze dropped to his arm, where the wound still oozed fresh red. After exchanging a few more words, Giffard ended the call.
For now, the danger seemed contained. He knew the roads would be under restriction, which meant he had to remain in hiding until morning, when his arranged contacts would arrive to extract him. The thought steadied him, giving him a measure of calm.

He turned back to the document in his hand. Millie had to hear this good news. Surely, she would be delighted!
A sudden longing for her tugged at his chest.
He had been away for so long, and in that time he had no idea how she was managing. By now it should be nighttime back home, though she might not yet be asleep.
With that in mind, he dialed Millie’s number. But the line rang endlessly without anyone picking up. Confusion pricked at him. Just when the tone was about to cut off, the call connected at last.
“Giffard?” a man’s voice answered.
His brows knit tightly. “Myron p>
“Yes, it’s me,” Myron replied.
“I called Millie,” Giffard pressed. “Why are you the one answering? Where is she?” An uneasy feeling started building in him.
“She’s asleep,” Myron replied. “Do you need something? I’ll let her know when she wakes p>
