Suddenly, a knock echoed from the door.
Moments later, Maggie stepped into the room.
“Little Ari wants to see you, Miss Bennett,” Maggie said, her eyes filled with concern as she looked at Millie.
“Miss Bennett, you…” Maggie’s voice trailed off before she could finish, hesitation clear in her tone.
She was clearly afraid of saying the wrong thing and stirring up Millie’s pain. Millie noticed the concern in Maggie’s eyes and chose not to dwell on it.
“Let her in. I’m feeling better,” she said simply.
Millie adjusted her pajama top, realizing it wasn’t the same one she had been wearing earlier. Her eyes flicked briefly to Myron, but she stayed silent.
“The doctor came by and applied ointment,” Myron explained, reading her thoughts. “You woke up several times in the night drenched in sweat, so naturally, I changed your pajamas for you.” Not wanting to dwell on the details, he simply added, “The wounds may itch while they heal.
