Chapter 984
Chapter 984:
Some who hadn’t planned to attend were now eager to see her for themselves. Brandon was among them.
At first, he had decided to stay away. If Millie didn’t welcome him, there was no need to intrude. His priority was still capturing Macauley; everything else could wait.
But Archie’s visit had changed his mind.
Though uninvited, he sent Millie a message.
When she checked her phone in the dressing room, Millie found his brief text: “I will attend your opening banquet tonight—Brandon.” A statement, not a request—so typical of him.
Millie studied her reflection in the mirror and then glanced at Myron, standing not far behind her.
Their eyes met in the mirror as Myron came closer. “What’s wrong?” he asked.
His gaze shifted to the phone, to the message glowing on the screen.
Myron studied Millie’s face. “What do you think? Should we adjust our plans p>

Earlier, she had believed they could quietly part ways, each moving on without conflict.
She’d even refrained from blocking him, knowing he would simply find another way to reach her. But tonight, she no longer felt the need for courtesy.
Across town, Brandon slid his phone into his pocket and turned to Babette, seated stiffly nearby. Her nerves were obvious.

“Brandon…” Babette ventured, stealing a glance at him. “I only muttered a few complaints earlier. It was just Casimir and me—no one else heard. I never spoke ill of Millie in public p>
Rumor had already reached her that Eugene had warned the gossips to keep Millie’s name out of their mouths.
The news made her burn with resentment.
Millie always had men to shield her—letting others fight her battles while she played the victim.
And now? She was with Myron, yet she still kept a relationship with her ex-husband.
And Egbert, too.
The thought stung, and Babette was furious.
“That’s not why I called you over.” Brandon’s quiet interruption cut through her bitterness.
Babette blinked, thrown off. If not that, then what?
She looked up and met the full force of his sharp, assessing gaze. A chill of unease slid down her spine.
“What little schemes have you been running in the Watson Group?” Brandon’s voice was cool, almost bored. “Will you explain them, or shall I p>
