Chapter 677
Chapter 677:
“I’ll make sure they’re taken care of,” Myron promised with a firm nod, and the two men exchanged a silent moment of understanding.
Millie glanced down at Ari, who had been sticking closer to her than usual ever since the adoption procedures were completed, and she could finally bring the girl home.
These days, Ari had been showing her more warmth than before.
Millie treasured this change, because it meant Ari truly saw her as part of the family.
Ari bit into a shrimp, then beamed up at her, looking impossibly cute. Unable to resist, Millie leaned over and kissed her forehead.
Ari giggled and returned the affection with a quick kiss on Millie’s cheek.
The mood in the group was cheerful.
Before long, their late-night barbecue party came to an end, and they each went their own way.
Since Myron’s car was parked farther down the street, he instructed, “Wait for me here. I’ll go get the car.”
The night market was busy but safe, so Millie agreed without hesitation.
While Ari played with the new charm on her bag, something suddenly appeared in front of Millie’s face.
She looked up and saw the string of a balloon being offered to her.
Following the string upward, she spotted a person in a bear costume. They looked like one of the market’s part-time performers. She remembered catching sight of the mascot earlier while eating skewers.
Wearing something that bulky in the heat must have been exhausting. Thinking this, she accepted the balloon and reached for her purse to pay.
But the mascot shook their head. ᴛʜɪs ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ ɪs ᴜᴘᴅᴀᴛᴇ ʙʏ
Millie frowned slightly, alert but not too worried, since the police station was right across the street.

The mascot tied the balloon to the side and then pulled out a small notebook. “There are things weighing on my mind, and I want to know if you can give me the answers.”
On the page beside the message was the word “Survey.”
That was when Millie realized it wasn’t a balloon sale at all, but a survey.
Millie took a moment to think it over before giving a small nod. She had seen companies run in-person surveys like this before.
The mascot flipped to a fresh page in the notebook.
A single sentence was written across it.
“If you once loved someone deeply but later separated, do you think there’s a chance to love them again?”
Millie read the question and let her gaze drop.
Brandon’s face came to mind instantly.
After a quiet beat, she gave a small shake of her head.
“No,” she said. “Some things should stay in the past, untouched.”
