Chapter 1000
Chapter 1000:
She was Millie Bennett. And she belonged to herself and no one else.
“Brandon, don’t flatter yourself into thinking that what you’re doing has anything to do with love,” she continued with devastating honesty. “What you’re displaying isn’t love at all. It’s possessiveness. It’s a sick desire to control and ruin me p>
Brandon stared at her with the kind of determined intensity that made her skin crawl, clearly convinced that he would eventually get what he wanted.
“If destroying you is what it takes to keep you in my life, then that’s exactly what I’ll do,” Brandon said without a trace of shame.
Millie felt a wave of disgust wash over her. He was completely and utterly unreasonable.
“Please, Millie, don’t marry him. Just wait for me a little while longer,” Brandon pleaded, his voice taking on a desperate edge. “Soon I’ll be able to tell you everything. Once you understand the whole truth, you’ll see why I had to p>
Millie looked at him with genuine sadness, wondering what possible explanation could justify the things he’d done.
What could possibly make him disregard her feelings and wishes so completely? What could make him treat the life of their unborn child as nothing more than an inconvenient obstacle standing between them?
“Then why don’t you tell me right now?” Millie challenged him. “What’s stopping you from explaining everything this very moment p>
Brandon opened his mouth, but no words came out. He remained frustratingly silent.
Not wanting to waste another second of her time, Millie turned around and walked away without looking back.
Millie’s friends, who had been watching this drama unfold, immediately followed her.

Only Brandon, Babette, and Eugene — who had been silently pushing Brandon’s wheelchair in the background — remained standing in the corner.
Because Charles, Alexia, and several other guests had quickly moved to create a protective barrier around Millie when Babette started shouting, separating her from the Watson family drama, and because Millie had kept her voice controlled instead of shouting back like Babette had done, only Napier, who happened to be seated at a nearby table, had been close enough to overhear the latter part of their conversation.
Napier glanced over at Brandon and Babette with an amused twinkle in his eyes. “You young folks shouldn’t be so hard-headed about everything. The catering staff has prepared some truly excellent food for tonight. You should try to enjoy yourselves while you’re here p>
Brandon remained completely silent, staring straight ahead as if he hadn’t heard a word, while Babette was still practically vibrating with anger.
Only Eugene bothered to respond politely. “Thank you for your kindness, sir. I hope you have a wonderful evening p>
Napier smiled warmly but didn’t press the conversation any further.
“Brandon!” Babette hissed at her cousin through clenched teeth, her voice sharp with frustration.
“We’re leaving. Now.” Brandon’s voice was flat and final.
“You’re just going to let them get away with humiliating us like that?” Babette couldn’t believe what she was hearing. The memory of being embarrassed in front of Egbert was still burning in her chest.
