The nonstop two-hour show, coupled with her commanding stage presence, left Millie nearly stumbling. Instinct pushed Brandon to reach for her, but the crowd wedged between them kept him too far away. His hand hovered helplessly in the air, unable to touch her.
Barbara appeared at Millie’s side and slipped an arm around her, helping her backstage.
Meanwhile, those same haunting memories flickered through Brandon’s mind—Millie covered in blood, her lifeless gaze, her fragile condition.
Brandon’s grip tightened on the safe handle, knuckles white with strain. Up in the VIP section, guests began to leave.
Myron and Egbert didn’t spare a glance at Brandon, both hurrying backstage to check on Millie.
Only Giffard and Alexia lingered near Brandon.
Their attention drifted to the safe Brandon was still clutching. Giffard broke the silence first. “No luck opening it yet p>

Alexia caught on right away and let out a dry, derisive laugh. “Giffard, didn’t I warn you? We both dropped him hints, and after all this time, he still hasn’t figured it out. Clearly, he couldn’t care less p>

Their voices dripped with sarcasm, each word stoking the anger burning inside Brandon. Before heading backstage to check on Millie, they changed the subject. “Millie’s been in rough shape lately. Thanks to a certain someone, she’s lost so much weight. Who knows if she’ll be able to handle tonight? Let’s go check on her now!” Alexia said, concern barely masking her irritation.
Giffard’s agreement was immediate, worry flickering across his face.

Just as they started to go, Brandon wheeled himself in front of them, eyes rimmed with red as he stared them down. “She’s…” He tried to speak, but his voice faltered.
“She’s not okay,” Alexia finished for him, blunt and unforgiving.
“Don’t pretend you’re surprised,” Alexia continued, relentless. “You know as well as anyone, Millie’s health is on you, Brandon. All of this is your fault.” Brandon dropped his gaze, refusing to speak.
“Get out of the way!” Giffard snapped. “We need to see how she’s doing backstage p>
Still, Brandon didn’t move an inch.
Alexia let out a sigh, exasperated. “What is it now p>
“The password,” Brandon murmured, barely audible.
Alexia let out a sharp laugh. “Seriously? You think we’re just going to hand it over? Figure it out yourself p>
When Brandon stayed put, Giffard simply steered Alexia around him, taking the long way to reach the backstage area.
Before disappearing, Alexia paused and glanced over her shoulder, as if a thought had just struck her. “Oh, and tell Vivian not to lose track of time. The show’s finished, and Millie’s given her until now to decide—either apologize or accept the consequences.” With that, Alexia turned away, trailing after Giffard.
