Chapter 982
Chapter 982:
Onlookers turned as a silver-haired man emerged from the car. Handsome despite his years, he carried himself with effortless charm.
“Oh my, that’s Archie!” someone whispered.
“Who p>
“Archie Austin, the leading managing director of MKK—one of the top global investment bankers p>
“MKK? The global giant p>
“Exactly! Why would he be here p>
“I just remembered! Millie’s father, James, worked at MKK before he quit and came home. Could this have something to do with that p>
“But James has been gone for years. Surely that connection faded long ago p>
“Who knows p>
The murmurs grew as Archie surveyed the flower arrangements, spoke briefly to his aide, and moments later, a large bouquet was carried forward. Hearing the stir, Millie stepped outside just as the flowers were presented.
“Miss Bennett,” the aide said, “these are from Mr. Austin to congratulate you on the opening p>
Millie’s eyes moved from the bouquet to the silver-haired man approaching. Archie smiled.
“Millie, it’s been a long time. Last I saw you, you were just a little girl p>
Millie returned a small, poised smile. “Archie, it has been a while. Thank you for the flowers p>
“You’re welcome,” he said, drawing an envelope from his inner pocket. “I’m in Crobert on business, and was asked to bring this to you p>
Millie accepted the envelope but didn’t open it. Instead, she met Archie’s gaze, searching for a moment.

He simply smiled, and then turned and walked back to his car.
Millie watched until he disappeared from view, and then carefully tucked the envelope away.
Everyone nearby leaned in with curiosity. “Miss Bennett, why did Mr. Austin send you flowers p>
“Millie, are you close to him p>
“What’s in that envelope he gave you p>
A small crowd waited for her reply. Millie met their eager faces and chose her words with care.
“Mr. Austin already explained—he was simply passing through and delivering something to me. He used to work with my father. The last time we met was back when my father was still alive.” She didn’t mention the envelope’s contents.
Her gaze lingered on the Rolls-Royce as it disappeared down the street before she turned back.
Seeing the questions still on their faces, she said lightly, “Let’s not dwell on this. Today is my new company’s opening—we’ll celebrate properly p>
With that, she headed inside.
Only then did the crowd begin to disperse, though quiet speculation quickly took over.
