Chapter 117
Chapter 117:
With that, the auction paused.
A wave of restlessness swept through the room as people eagerly awaited what would happen next. Instead of seeing the final moments of the bidding, everyone was asked to wait.
Napier could sense the growing impatience of the crowd, but he remained silent as his grandsons helped him toward the elevator leading to the third floor. Just before the elevator doors slid shut, he spoke to Charles. “Go get her for me. I want to see her.”
There was no confusion about who he meant.
A wave of panic hit Charles. This was definitely the worst time for this.
Everyone had just witnessed the tense bidding battle between bidder 823 and bidder 888. Taking Millie to see his grandfather now would only escalate the tension.
Had things gone differently earlier, there might have been a chance. Unfortunately, that window had closed.
Charles’ oldest brother stayed quiet, while his second brother gave a sly grin. “Go ahead, Charles.”
There was nothing Charles could do but obey. He shot Oakley a frustrated look before heading off to find Millie. Chapters first released on.net
Millie already sensed what was about to happen. Before Charles even spoke, she nodded to show she understood.
A heavy sigh escaped Charles. He knew Millie would have to face this on her own. He helped her to her feet and walked with her toward a private room on the third floor.
“My grandfather is waiting inside,” he said quietly. “Be on your guard. If you need anything, just call out, and I’ll be right there.”
A gentle smile crossed Millie’s lips. “I’m sure it isn’t as frightening as you’re making it seem.”
Charles insisted, his nervousness clearly visible. “But it is! You have no idea how serious this is.”

Millie didn’t push the matter further. She nodded and said, “Okay, I’m going in now.”
Both of Charles’ brothers remained close by, keeping a watchful eye on him as he paced nervously in front of the door.
Meanwhile, Millie stepped into the room, calmly closing the door behind her before walking toward Napier with measured steps.
She came to a stop, and with a steady hand, she removed the custom half-mask she had been wearing. She did it with confidence, revealing her whole face to Napier without a hint of hesitation.
In that moment, it became clear that it wasn’t Serena standing before him. It was Millie.
A gentle smile appeared on Millie’s face as she greeted the older gentleman in front of her. “Good evening, Mr. Evans. It’s me, Millie.”
Napier studied Millie as she pulled down her mask. His face revealed only a slight trace of surprise, though he maintained his composure.
Understanding settled in for Millie as soon as she saw his reaction. She walked over to where Napier sat, holding the box of premium coffee beans Charles had arranged for her, and began to unwrap it carefully. “Charles told me this is Blue Mountain Coffee, your favorite. Would you like me to make a cup for you?” she asked.
