Chapter 998
Chapter 998:
“Miss Watson,” Millie replied coolly, “I’m not that vile p>
Adriana stepped forward. “Babette, the whole of Crobert knows Millie only got together with my brother after she was divorced. Stop making baseless claims about my future sister-in-law. Besides p>
Adriana sneered, her eyes flicking to Brandon in the wheelchair. “It was your cousin who filed for divorce, wasn’t it p>
Just months ago, Crobert had buzzed with gossip about Millie being abandoned. At that time, most people sided with Vivian and asked Millie to leave Brandon. Nothing could erase the past. The rumors were still fresh. And those gathered upstairs knew full well that Brandon was the one who ended the marriage.
“I even recall Brandon and Vivian being seen together often before the divorce was final,” someone chimed in.
Millie hadn’t done anything wrong, yet Babette chose to slander her here — on the day of her opening, no less, right after, in front of her new husband-to-be.
The crowd eyed Babette with scorn. Even Egbert frowned at her outburst. That only stoked her fury. She couldn’t let Millie win — not in front of Egbert. She wouldn’t allow Millie to walk away unscathed.
“So you admit it was deliberate?” Babette’s eyes burned with spite. “You knew my cousin was here, so you announced the wedding to humiliate the Watsons p>
Alexia, who had just arrived, let out a sharp laugh. “Babette, are you serious? At events like this, every detail is planned. Do you think the lights just changed perfectly by pure accident when Millie suddenly decided to humiliate the Watsons? By your logic, Millie built a whole company and threw a grand party just to mock your family, and she’s even marrying Myron just to spite you p>
“Brandon. Don’t forget — Myron’s proposal to Millie was made public a long time ago p>
Alexia’s tongue was always sharp, and Babette was nearly trembling with rage. “But Brandon is right here!” Babette shouted stubbornly.

Myron finally spoke. “So what you mean to say is that as long as a Watson is still in this city, Millie and I can’t marry? Because that will be humiliating you p>
What arrogance.
Alexia smirked. “Millie even sent your grandparents home earlier. The Watsons really do take the cake. You barge in uninvited, make Millie host you, and now you dare accuse her p>
She added, “The banquet and the announcement were decided days ago. Millie has already shown your family more grace than you deserve p>
Babette choked on her words, her face dark with frustration.
Millie no longer spared her a glance. Her eyes stayed fixed on Brandon, who had been silent all along, simply watching her.
If Brandon wasn’t going to speak up, then Millie wasn’t going to waste any more time trying to get answers from him.
After a long moment of tense silence, Millie finally broke it with quiet resolve. “Yes, I knew he would be here tonight. About thirty minutes before the banquet started, I got a text message from Brandon p>
She had hoped for something simple between them as former spouses — no contact, no interference, both of them moving forward with their separate lives in peace.
But Brandon had made that impossible with his constant harassment and refusal to respect her boundaries.
