Chapter 1004
Chapter 1004:
When they arrived, Millie didn’t follow Myron inside. “You go ahead,” she said quietly. “I want to do something first p>
Myron understood immediately that she wanted to visit Nicole. He gave her an encouraging nod and headed inside alone.
Millie carried the pastry box as she walked the short distance to Nicole’s separate quarters. She raised her hand and knocked gently on the door.
After a few moments, Nicole opened it with a surprised expression.
“It’s quite late. What brings you here?” Nicole asked, though she didn’t step aside to invite Millie inside.
Millie held out the box with a hopeful smile. “Someone gave me these lovely pastries today, and I thought you might enjoy sharing them with me p>
Nicole accepted the box but still made no move to welcome Millie into her home.
Millie felt her heart sink as she struggled to find the right words to ask if she could come in and talk.
But before she could find the courage to speak, Nicole said simply, “Thank you. I will try them later p>
The words Millie had been planning to say died in her throat.
“It’s getting quite late. You should head back and get some sleep,” Nicole added gently but firmly.
Millie stood there for a moment, feeling stunned and hurt by the obvious dismissal. After a few seconds, she managed to nod and take a step back. Just before turning to leave, she added quietly, “I wanted you to know that I’ve set aside some shares in my new company for you. When the company starts turning a profit, dividend payments will be automatically transferred to your bank account p>
“I understand,” Nicole said simply, her tone making it crystal clear that she had no intention of asking Millie to come inside or stay any longer.

The message was unmistakable — Millie wasn’t welcome here.
A wave of hurt washed over Millie as the reality of the situation sank in. She looked up at Nicole with wounded eyes, desperately wanting to bridge the gap between them and have a real conversation.
“Mom p>
The word had barely escaped her lips when the door closed firmly in her face.
Millie’s head dropped as she stood there alone on the doorstep. The cool evening breeze played gently with her hair while she tried to process the rejection she’d just experienced.
After several long moments, she forced herself to push down the sadness that was threatening to overwhelm her and slowly turned to walk away.
Inside the house, Nicole stood by the window watching Millie’s retreating figure, her own eyes filled with a complicated mixture of emotions that she couldn’t quite sort through.
The relationship between them had been strained and difficult for years, with both of them carrying old wounds that neither seemed able to heal.
Nicole opened the pastry box and studied the delicate treats that Millie had brought to share. She picked up one of the pastries and took a small bite.
It was quite delicious, and she could understand why Millie had developed such a fondness for this particular bakery.
With a heavy sigh, Nicole set the box down on her kitchen counter and suddenly felt the need to get some fresh air and clear her head.
