Chapter 1005
Chapter 1005:
She took the shuttle to the lakeside path, hoping that a quiet walk might help settle her troubled thoughts.
As she strolled along the water’s edge, she heard voices coming from a bench area up ahead.
“Thank you so very much for doing this!” a woman was saying with obvious gratitude. “I’m really sorry for making you come out so late at night just to sign some paperwork p>
“Please don’t apologize,” came the familiar voice of one of the Elliott family housekeepers. “Miss Bennett specifically requested that we set up a regular delivery contract with your bakery, so arranging the details is simply part of our job p>
The mention of Millie’s name immediately caught Nicole’s attention, and she found herself walking closer to the conversation.
The housekeeper spotted her approaching and gave her a respectful nod of greeting. Nicole returned the acknowledgment, then looked curiously at the middle-aged woman.
She could see a contract spread out on the table that hadn’t yet been put away, and from what she could glimpse, it appeared to be some kind of food service agreement.
Suddenly, Nicole made the connection between this contract and the pastries that Millie had just brought to her door.
“Leda Harris?” Nicole read the name printed at the top of the contract.
“Yes, that’s me!” Leda replied with an eager smile. “And you are p>
Nicole hesitated, suddenly unsure of how to introduce herself in this situation.
The housekeeper quickly stepped in to help. “This is Miss Bennett’s mother p>

Understanding dawned on Leda’s face immediately, and she practically lit up with excitement. “Oh my goodness, so you’re Miss Bennett’s mother! No wonder you looked familiar to me! You’re absolutely beautiful! Your daughter has been such an incredible blessing to my family. If it weren’t for her giving me that first big order and helping spread the word about my little bakery, my daughter and I would probably still be struggling just to pay our bills p>
Nicole felt her expression tighten slightly when she heard Leda mention her own daughter, the parallel hitting closer to home than she was comfortable with.
The housekeeper glanced between the two women nervously, unsure whether to redirect the conversation.
But Leda, trusting that anyone in Millie’s family must be a good person, felt no need to hold anything back. Besides, Millie already knew all about her personal situation, and since Nicole was just being introduced as Millie’s mother, Leda thought there was no reason to be secretive about her circumstances.
With that reasoning in mind, Leda launched into her full story, describing her struggles as a single mother trying to support herself and her daughter through her small bakery business.
“Your daughter truly saved our lives,” she concluded with heartfelt emotion. “I can never thank her enough for what she’s done for us p>
Nicole listened to every word in silence, her emotions becoming more complicated with each detail of Leda’s story.
When Leda finished speaking, Nicole simply nodded, her feelings too mixed and conflicted to put into words.
