Chapter 1020
Chapter 1020:
Taylor leaned over. “So, what’s our plan p>
Millie straightened, her resolve clear.
“We’re leaving,” she said simply. “Let’s head back to the office p>
“What, now?” Taylor’s confusion was evident in her eyes. The event was still in full swing, so why would Millie want to leave already?
Still, Taylor knew better than to question her boss’s decision. This wasn’t the place for a discussion, so she simply nodded and followed Millie out of the hall.
They reached the parking lot, only to run into someone neither of them expected.
Babette stood there, waiting.
With a subtle frown, Millie started to walk past her, hoping to avoid a confrontation.
“Trying to dodge me, Millie?” Babette called out sharply.
Millie stopped and turned to face her.
“I’m sorry, Miss Watson,” Millie said evenly, “but I have something important to take care of. I have to go now p>
“Running off so you can cry to your admirers for money?” Babette taunted, a sly grin spreading across her face.
At first, Millie simply wanted to walk away and forget the whole thing, but Babette’s biting tone made her reconsider. She decided not to back down.
Millie stepped closer, stopping beside Babette.
“I don’t understand.” Millie tilted her head slightly, curiosity flickering across her face. “Could you tell me what you’re getting at, Miss Watson p>
A cold laugh escaped Babette.
“You want the truth?” Babette straightened her shoulders, locking eyes with Millie. “You really need to rethink how you act around people. You can’t keep stringing one guy along while chasing after another p>

Millie’s expression didn’t change. “Are you talking about Mr. Perez p>
“Not only him,” Babette snapped, her eyes narrowing with suspicion. “There’s my cousin Myron, Charles, Giffard, and maybe others I haven’t even heard about p>
“First, the whole town knows why Brandon and I split up, and I believe that includes you,” Millie replied in a steady tone. “Second, Myron and I just made our wedding date public. There isn’t anyone else. Charles and Giffard have both been seen with other women at every event lately. They’re just friends of mine, nothing more. I want to make that clear to you. And one last thing p>
Babette’s glare was hard to ignore, but Millie calmly pulled out her phone and began looking for Egbert’s contact.
Babette’s voice rose, sharp with frustration. “What do you think you’re doing p>
Without a second thought, Millie tapped the call button.
“If you want real answers, I’m not the one you should turn to,” Millie said, looking Babette straight in the eye. “There are details about Mr. Perez that aren’t mine to share. He should be the one to tell you what you need to hear p>
Before the phone even rang, Babette snatched it and ended the call.
“Don’t play games, Millie,” Babette snapped. “You couldn’t possibly understand what happened between me and Egbert back in Flesta p>
Babette’s whole body trembled with outrage. “You’re unbelievable, you know that? What you’re doing is downright rotten p>
