All the while, Myron stayed by Millie’s bed.
For the first time since the accident, he reached out and brushed his fingers gently over her cheek instead of gazing at her through the barrier of glass. Her skin felt delicate, softer and thinner than he remembered, and the simple touch brought tears to his eyes.

“We all thought she’d wake up once she left the ICU, but now… there’s no telling how much longer we have to wait,” said Alexia, her voice unsteady as she tried to keep her composure.
“Why won’t she wake up?” Charles’ voice broke the silence, his eyes rimmed with red. “We’re all here, just waiting for her to open her eyes again.”
Myron gazed down at Millie’s peaceful face, noticing her eyelids pressed tightly shut. A single tear slipped from his cheek, landing softly on her skin, and he reached out to brush it away.
