Chapter 1478
Brandon felt something damp on his skin, and as he touched his face, he realized he was crying too.
A nurse rushed inside Millie’s room.
“What happened?” she inquired quickly.
“She woke up,” Myron responded right away.
The nurse immediately left to call for additional help.
Suddenly, the previously quiet hallway became a hive of activity as more medical personnel rushed into the room.
Excitement filled every corner of the room. What had once been a quiet hallway now buzzed with doctors and nurses hurrying about.
Groups of people entered and exited, speaking with each other in low, anxious voices. Energy and commotion spread throughout the entire space.
Alexia wasted no time and hurried over after hearing the news. Giffard, who had only just returned to the country, soon joined her.
Alexia stayed busy, making calls to keep everyone updated.
“Yes, we just received the update. They’ve confirmed Millie is awake.”
“They’re conducting tests right now. Myron is still by her side. We aren’t sure of all the details yet, so it could be a while.”
“There’s no need to rush over. Take your time and travel safely. The tests might take longer than expected.”
“That’s right, she’s conscious. Millie woke up!”
Alexia couldn’t stop pacing while she waited and made more calls, and Giffard followed suit.
Brandon remained seated, uncertain about what he should do. Eventually, their gazes met, and Giffard looked down at Brandon’s legs.
So much had changed, and after everything that happened this past year—including Brandon’s injury—many old grudges had softened.
“Did you see it happen?” Giffard asked, his tone reflective.
Brandon, his eyes rimmed with tears, nodded. “I did.”
Trying to compose himself, he added, “I watched Millie open her eyes and lift her hand.”
A deep redness welled up in Giffard’s eyes too.
He silently wished with all his heart that this moment was truly real. He wanted so badly for Millie to be fully awake and for things to turn out well from now on.
Those who had arrived first continued to pace anxiously. Not long after, more people started to trickle in.
Nicole appeared first, soon followed by Charles and the rest. Helga arrived a little later than the others, since she first went to pick up Ari from school after receiving the news.
At last, the entire group was gathered together. With Myron staying inside, everyone’s attention shifted to Brandon.
Brandon repeated himself for the others.
“Yes, I watched her wake up,” Brandon said with a nod.
Nicole and Helga both held Ari close, all three of them with teary eyes.
