Myron felt as if something heavy had struck his chest.

For a split second, he couldn’t trust what he was seeing. He found himself holding his breath, worried that this moment might vanish if he so much as moved.

“Millie?” he whispered, his voice shaky with emotion. He worried that even a small sound might cause this delicate moment to disappear.

He questioned if his own grief had created this vision. Still, even if it was nothing more than a dream, he didn’t want it to end.

Soft beeping filled the room, the monitors kept up their steady, unwavering sound.

Myron’s hands shook as he hesitated, too frightened to reach out to her.

Millie turned her gaze toward him and parted her lips, clearly struggling to speak.

Tears slid down her cheeks as she tried repeatedly, until at last she managed to force out a rough, faint voice.

“Ron… nie…” she murmured.

That was the pet name she always used for him.

She was really speaking to him!

“Millie…” His voice wavered while he pressed the call button and softly wiped the tears from her face.

He could actually feel her tears beneath his fingertips. Myron pinched his own arm sharply. The pain was unmistakable.

This was really happening. This was truly real!

Millie was awake at last!

“Millie!” Myron could barely catch his breath from the surge of relief and happiness.

His heart beat wildly in his chest, filled with a happiness he had never felt before.

“Millie, you’re finally awake!” Tears ran down his face and he couldn’t hold them back any longer.

She kept her eyes on him as quiet tears streamed down her cheeks.

It looked as though she was trying to say something, but after being asleep for so long, her mouth opened without a single word escaping.

At last, she slowly lifted her hand.

The sunlight poured in, catching the glint of her wedding band and scattering its light across the room.

Myron instantly reached out and wrapped his fingers around hers.

“Don’t… cry…” she managed to whisper after some time had passed.

Still, he couldn’t hold back the tears, and they continued to fall.

“This isn’t because I’m sad,” he replied softly, brushing away the tears on her face. “It’s because I’m happy. Millie, I can’t believe how happy I am…”

He was filled with a happiness that felt almost overwhelming.

A short while later, members of the medical team entered. Outside the room, Brandon watched everything unfold from a distance.

He saw her eyes open and noticed her hand lifting slowly. His heart started pounding all over again.

She was conscious! Could it really be true? Was he just imagining this?
