The chauffeured van pulled up in front of the Evans Group headquarters. Millie glanced at the driver and the bodyguard. “I’ll be counting on you both from now on.”
The bodyguard smiled. “You can relax. Safety is guaranteed.”
Taylor stepped out first, gathering the items and preparing the wheelchair. With the bodyguard’s help, Millie settled into it.
A crowd had already gathered, watching curiously as Taylor pushed Millie toward the building. Whispers followed them until the elevator doors closed.
“That’s Millie, right? Alive?”
“Of course she’s alive! What are you talking about?”
“Hey, you know what I meant.”
Escorted by Taylor, Millie arrived outside Napier’s office. Since the visit had been scheduled, nothing blocked their way. Millie carried a gift on her lap, smiling as she entered.
“Napier.” She passed the gift to the secretary and bent slightly from the wheelchair. “Sorry, I can’t stand on my own two feet yet.”
Napier laughed heartily and waved away her apology.
“I’m honored to be your first visit. I’ll brag about this for months!”
Millie chuckled. “You deserve the first stop.” Her partnership with Napier had always run the deepest. Among the major external shareholders, only Yaroslav Technology and the Elliott Group were comparable, but since she was also a shareholder there, contacting them later wouldn’t cause any issues.
Napier’s grin stretched even wider. “Makes perfect sense!” He often believed his grandson’s greatest fortune was meeting Millie.
After some friendly conversation, Millie and Taylor headed out. Their next stop was the Watson Group, where they brought gifts for Derek and his wife. Whatever history existed between them didn’t matter now; the Watsons were one of Crobert’s three major powerhouses.
Afterward, she visited Babette’s office. Babette hugged Millie tightly, beaming with joy. The staff nearby froze, stunned by the display. There was no need for explanations; that one hug said everything.
Upon leaving, Millie crossed paths with Brandon, also seated in a wheelchair. They exchanged a calm, brief nod. Nothing more.
Millie continued her visits, stopping by the Butcher household to bring a new plant for Wade’s garden. Her rounds were short but numerous, and each location welcomed her warmly. Word spread even faster thanks to Napier’s enthusiastic updates in their private group chat.
Because of this, she couldn’t linger anywhere. Besides, her health wouldn’t allow long stays. These visits stretched out over several days. For acquaintances Millie wasn’t especially close to, Taylor delivered the gifts on her behalf. Everyone understood; no one expected long conversations given her condition.
That entire week, the name “Millie” stayed at the center of Crobert’s attention. Her appearances made one thing clear: she had returned to her seat of influence. Not with lavish parties or public fanfare, just her, visiting personally, without Myron beside her.
If Myron had joined, the meaning would have shifted to a couple’s visit. But Millie needed to stand alone this time. She came as herself, as JM Investments’ leader, and as a Bennett.
After completing the important visits, Millie traveled to Yaroslav Technology. They welcomed her with warm applause. Next was Evans Entertainment, where Charles looked so excited he couldn’t stop grinning.
