Chapter 1499
Finally, she reached the Elliott Group, where Myron had been preparing for her arrival. This meeting was for shareholders, and Millie entered as an investor.
Her eyes landed briefly on Jose, and she gave him a polite smile. Adriana and Jayceon stood together to greet her. Myron stepped forward at once, lifting his hand toward hers in a slow, deliberate gesture of welcome.
Myron guided Millie to her seat with a steady hand, his movements careful, almost protective.
Millie offered the room a warm smile. “Hello, everyone. It’s been a while.”
Her gaze lingered on Jose for a beat longer, her smile deepening with a quiet confidence that seemed to ripple across the crowd. Expressions shifted throughout the room. Most greeted Millie with genuine warmth, but the opposition, especially Jose, wore clear displeasure on their faces. Millie, however, appeared entirely unmoved by their reactions.
Once she settled, the meeting began as usual under Myron’s lead, touching on various future developments. It might have been a routine meeting, but Millie’s presence changed the atmosphere. Thoughts drifted, expressions tightened or softened, and every word carried a different weight. Millie did not offer any comments; she truly seemed present only to observe. Yet everyone knew that her mere presence altered the balance.
The meeting wrapped up quickly. Myron rose and helped Millie back to his office. As soon as they entered, he poured her a glass of warm water and placed it in her hands.
“Are you tired?” he asked, settling beside her. While she lifted the glass, he began to massage her leg gently.
Millie caught and held his hand. “Not really,” she murmured. “With Taylor by my side, I didn’t feel tired.”
Myron let out a soft chuckle and tucked back a loose strand of her hair. “Millie, I’ve been thinking. Our last wedding was so chaotic. Once you feel better, should we have another one?”
Millie rolled her eyes, giggling. “Another? Aren’t you tired? The night before the wedding, I was so nervous I couldn’t even sleep, so I dragged Alexia out of bed and talked endlessly. I could barely stand the next morning, and she teased me about it the whole time.”
Myron paused, then burst into laughter, bending over as the memory tickled him.
Millie looked at him in confusion before leaning over and poking his side. “What’s so funny?”
“I’m laughing because…” He tried to steady himself. “Alexia teased you, but she fooled me too. She told me you were irritable from lack of sleep and that I should tread carefully. I was on edge the entire morning before I saw you at the ceremony.”
Millie blinked in astonishment. “Really? Is that what happened?”
He nodded with enthusiasm. “I was so nervous that I gave her a generous gift and asked for advice.”
Recalling the gleam in Alexia’s eyes that morning when she handed her the coffee, Millie’s mouth twitched. “No wonder…” she muttered.
Their laughter faded into comfortable banter before Millie’s tone softened. “Honestly, let’s not have a second wedding.”
Myron turned to her with quiet focus.
