Chapter 1507
When Millie awoke a few hours later, the morning light filtered softly through the blinds. She moved through her routine with precise efficiency: first JM Investments, to issue the day’s instructions, then onward to the hospital for her scheduled rehabilitation. On the surface, nothing seemed changed. Yet beneath that calm, she knew everything had shifted.
She had already replied to Archie on the way, assuring him that reversing the situation entirely would be challenging, but for now, holding their ground was possible.
Seated in the car, laptop resting lightly on her lap, Millie watched the world slip by outside the window. Patience would be her ally. She could not rush.
She reviewed her plans meticulously. First, confirm which forces still posed a threat to the Bennett family. Then take systematic measures to neutralize them. Every step required caution. If she had not yet acquired the ability to strike back, endurance was the only weapon she could wield. Every routine, every daily task, had to appear ordinary. No one could suspect anything.
At the hospital, guided by skilled professionals, Millie underwent her physical rehabilitation. Every movement, every effort, was precise. She had to recover swiftly, efficiently, completely.
Three days passed. On the third night, Myron returned with Millie to Elliott Mansion. He handed her a set of documents.
“It’s all clarified,” he said.
Millie examined the files carefully.
Myron’s voice followed, measured and deliberate. “Many forces have indeed vanished over the years, and…” He paused, letting the weight of his words settle. “The Bennett family proved far tougher than I anticipated. Even amid the chaos, they held their ground and even mounted counteroffensives.”
Millie scanned the contents, absorbing every detail. In Crobert, most adversarial forces had been eradicated, leaving only faint remnants of opposition. Her father had fallen tragically, leaving her and her mother as the sole heirs to the system, along with the loyal old associates the Watson family had preserved. They posed no threat.
The conflict had shifted overseas. Later, perhaps because Nicole had married Hayden, whose ineffectiveness was notorious, the Bennett family’s old allies within the Watson Group had failed to make an impact. Everyone assumed whatever James had built had crumbled to dust. Few continued to pose any danger.
Millie studied the documents with care, her mind tracing connections. She recognized familiar names, people who had once fawned over her during her father’s global tours. But according to the records, several had defected later. Fortunately, the Bennett family’s counterstrikes had eliminated most of them.
Millie studied everything in detail.
“So, are there any remaining forces from the Bennett family?” she asked.
Myron let out a deep breath and shook his head.
A faint disappointment washed over Millie, but she understood the scale of the siege her family had endured.
“There aren’t many adversarial forces left,” Myron said, meeting her gaze. “I’ll reach out to Egbert. Together, we can eliminate most of what remains on that list.”
Millie nodded. “I’ll handle it. I’ll contact him.” This was the Bennett family’s burden, hers to shoulder.
“So,” Myron continued, “that leaves two final challenges, or rather, one.”
