Chapter 1023
Chapter 1023:
Millie gave her a cold glance, then addressed the driver. “We’re done here. Please drive p>
Ignoring Babette’s tantrum, Millie let the car pull away, heading straight for the company.
In the back seat, she shifted her focus to work, quietly sending messages and updates to her team.
From the front, Taylor studied Millie’s reflection, clearly debating whether to speak up.
“Go ahead. If something’s bothering you, spit it out,” Millie said, catching her assistant’s gaze.
Taking a breath, Taylor finally asked, “Do you think Babette is going to make things difficult for us p>
Millie nodded for her to continue.
“And earlier, with Reuben—he didn’t say much, but I felt like he was warning us,” Taylor said. “They’ve got more connections than we do. What if they decide to put up roadblocks p>
Glancing down at her tablet, Millie didn’t look worried. “Some things are just out of our hands, Taylor p>
She knew she couldn’t control Reuben, and Babette had made it clear she wasn’t interested in a real conversation. That just meant they’d have to stay alert and ready for anything.
“If getting ahead were easy, I’d be worried. You only grow by facing obstacles, not by coasting along,” Millie said calmly.
She paused, meeting Taylor’s eyes in the rearview mirror.
“Complacency is a trap,” Millie added. “The moment you start thinking there’s no danger, you’ve probably already walked into it. So keep your head on straight, even when everything feels simple p>

When we fixed our attention only on what was right before us, it became far too easy to miss the subtle signs that truly mattered. That was exactly when we needed to be extra cautious.
With this in mind, Millie turned to Taylor. “Give the order. We need a full investigation into Foley’s company p>
She hesitated for a moment, then added, “Something about him doesn’t sit right with me p>
Taylor gave a firm nod.
Millie glanced out the window. From her earlier probing conversation, it seemed Foley had his eyes on both Elliott Group and Watson Group, though he hadn’t made a direct move toward either of them. It almost felt as if he were searching for an indirect connection.
Something about it felt off.
And then there was Reuben…
Millie pondered for a while before deciding to call Charles to go over the matter with him.
Shortly after, the car pulled up in front of the office building.
Millie and Taylor made their way upstairs. Inside, the staff were busy at their desks, and once Millie gave her new orders, the entire office moved swiftly into action.
