Chapter 1044
Chapter 1044:
Millie nodded. It matched what she had suspected all along. She split the fruit and tried a piece. Satisfied with its sweetness, she offered some to Adkins.
“It’s sweet.” She smiled. “And thank you for the insight p>
She remembered James once saying Adkins had a sweet tooth.
He accepted the offering without a word.
Soon after, Anika returned, and following a brief chat, Millie said her goodbyes and went to find Alexia.
She caught Alexia right at shift change, and they began to talk.
“Millie, I’m nervous,” Alexia admitted. “What if Sheridan’s company fails? You know how many startups don’t make it p>
Millie laughed softly and tapped her nose.
“Your mom was probably testing Sheridan’s resolve,” she said after a moment.
Alexia blinked, confused.
“Think about it,” Millie said. “Sheridan’s a top tech guy from a big firm. He could easily earn more with stock options down the road. I think your mom wanted to see how serious he was—and he’s shown that already p>
Alexia thought about it and nodded.
Maybe she hadn’t been the most careful with money lately, but things with Sheridan had been smooth. He made her happy.
“What if Mom still says no in the end?” she asked quietly.
“Then talk to her,” Millie advised. “Open communication clears the air. Besides p>
She leaned closer and whispered, “Do you really think we’d stand by and let Sheridan fail? Not a chance. With his skills, he’ll land on his feet anywhere p>
Alexia’s eyes widened, and Millie laughed, pulling her into a warm hug.

“You’re amazing,” Alexia murmured.
Millie smiled.
Sheridan seemed genuine and treated Alexia well.
Maybe Alexia’s mother just thought things were moving too fast.
Still, Millie hoped Sheridan stayed true—because if he didn’t, he’d have her to answer to.
“Enough worrying,” Millie said cheerfully. “Myron’s mom once took me to a fantastic beauty salon. Want to go for a facial p>
“Sure! But you’re paying.” Alexia grinned.
“Deal,” Millie said.
“I’ll go grab my stuff and change. Wait here p>
As Alexia rushed off, Millie texted Myron, letting him know she’d be with Alexia and that he shouldn’t wait for her for dinner. When she looked up from her phone, her smile faded slightly.
A familiar face caught her attention, and something about it stirred an uneasy memory.
After sending a quick message to Alexia, Millie decided to follow the person.
Fifteen minutes later, she returned, her thoughts still in a whirl.
Alexia appeared, ready to go.
