Chapter 1095
Chapter 1095:
“Either the mine collapsed, or there was some kind of blast,” Millie assumed. “But since the noise wasn’t that loud, it was probably just a small cave-in. That part of the area was blocked off after the incident, so hardly anyone knows what really happened. Later on, officials said everything was fine, but I can’t shake off the feeling that something’s terribly wrong p>
She could still picture the entire scene in her mind. There had been only a faint noise, and since they were just a bunch of strangers drawn by the sound, nobody let them in. Millie stood aside and silently observed. After some quick activity, things looked normal again, but she wasn’t too sure.
She questioned her local partner for more details.
“It’s probably nothing to worry about. Mining can be noisy, and they do use dynamite. Maybe just a small explosion,” her partner said.
Millie watched the scenery pass by outside the window and quietly said, “No word about this incident got out before I came back p>
Myron leaned in and pulled Millie into a comforting embrace.
“So what do you believe actually happened?” he asked.
“I have a feeling it really was a collapse,” said Millie. “When we finished the business talk, I stayed behind and noticed people carrying stretchers out late at night.” She knitted her brow. “There might have been some injuries—deaths even p>
Myron listened carefully and nodded, showing he understood her concerns.
That same day, talk spread about Millie’s troubled look upon her return.
Charles was hounded by reporters as well, but his notorious short fuse made them back off quickly.
“His mood is probably sour because his investments tanked,” people started to say.
Charles could not be bothered to give any reply.

Later that afternoon, Babette’s office door opened, and her assistant stepped inside.
“Miss Watson, here’s the latest update,” the assistant said as she handed over a tablet. “Millie poured a large sum into the international market not long after she got back, buying up gold and copper, and she’s still purchasing more as we speak p>
Lifting her brow, Babette gave her a curious look.
“Do you know what she’s planning?” she asked. “Have you found anything else p>
Without hesitation, the assistant replied, “Word is that Mirough’s interest rates are about to go down, which should push gold prices higher. Millie traveled to Gliphis for business a few days ago, and there’s talk about some incident in an underground copper mine over there. She could be rolling the dice on that p>
Babette gave a small nod.
Everyone already knew that a rate cut was in the works, and gold’s steady climb had been obvious.
But the news about the copper mine was another matter entirely.
“Has anything definite come out about that copper mine?” Babette asked.
“Nothing for certain yet,” said the assistant. “It was said to be a normal, scheduled explosion, and so far, reports say there wasn’t much disturbance at the surface. Unless someone was right there, they might not even hear the noise, so there shouldn’t be any big trouble p>
Babette’s relief showed in her smile.
