Chapter 1122
Chapter 1122:
Anika arrived about ten minutes later. She spotted Millie carefully picking off the last few stray ginger hairs and wrapping them in a tissue.
The sound of high heels clicking against marble made Millie look up. She saw Anika pushing open the door with her usual elegant confidence and quickly stood up to greet her properly.
“Sorry about my appearance,” Millie said with an embarrassed laugh, gesturing at her clothes. “I was playing with the cat earlier with Ari, and apparently I brought half of Orange’s fur with me p>
Anika’s eyes sparkled with amusement as she closed the door behind her. “Let me guess—Elliott Group’s beloved mascot, Orange p>
Millie nodded.
“I’ve actually bought quite a few items from Orange’s merchandise line,” Anika said as she took her seat, a faint smile playing on her lips.
“Well, I heard there’s a new product collection coming out soon. I’ll have someone from the company send it over to you once it’s officially released,” Millie said.
“I’d appreciate that,” Anika said warmly.
The two fell into a light conversation as their meal began, chatting about work, mutual acquaintances, and recent happenings.
But eventually, Millie’s tone shifted.
“About the matter I asked you to look into for me…” Millie began carefully, her voice dropping lower. “How is that going? Were you able to find out anything p>
Anika set down her utensils and met Millie’s gaze. “I asked my grandfather several times,” she admitted, “but he wouldn’t tell me anything p>
A flicker of disappointment crossed Millie’s face.
“Millie, don’t take it too hard,” Anika said gently, her voice softening. “The truth about your father will come to light sooner or later. My grandfather must have his reasons for keeping it from you p>

Millie nodded, her eyes dimming slightly. “Thank you, Anika,” she said sincerely.
After a brief pause, her gaze dropped to the table. “I understand your grandfather means well… but this has always been something I can’t move past. I need to know what really happened to my father p>
She had asked Anika to quietly sound out Adkins—not to confront him outright, but to see if she could uncover even a hint of the truth. Yet it seemed that even that small hope had reached a dead end.
During the Bennett family’s golden era, when their authority and reputation stretched across vast territories, even Millie’s incredibly capable father couldn’t escape becoming a victim of some vicious plot.
Given those circumstances, it made perfect sense why Adkins would be reluctant to discuss such painful history.
Millie recognized she was pushing too hard, too quickly. She drew in a long, steadying breath, working to rein in her emotions. This approach wouldn’t work—she couldn’t let her anxieties cloud her judgment, or she’d inevitably make costly errors.
Coming to that realization, she turned to Anika with a regretful expression and said, “Please excuse me for a moment. I need to step away to the ladies’ room p>
Anika acknowledged this with a knowing nod, completely aware of what Millie was experiencing internally.
She’d lived through the Bennett family’s magnificent heyday alongside James’ legendary reputation.
