Chapter 1491
Journalists filled the hospital entrance, but the steady wall of bodyguards kept them from getting anywhere close. It wasn’t that they didn’t itch to push through — they simply knew that any disturbance here could interfere with vital medical care, and none of them wanted to deal with the backlash from worried families inside.
A few people tried reaching Myron for information, but he had no time to spare for such matters. The moment Millie drifted back to sleep, he acted quickly, compiling a shortlist of the best rehabilitation teams from both within the country and abroad, then urgently calling Giffard and Alexia to discuss the situation.
A full evaluation of Millie’s condition was set for the next day. She seemed stable for now, but they still needed the detailed results of that examination for a definitive diagnosis. All Myron cared about was seeing her recover as soon as possible.
Online, the major figures appeared one after another. The heads of the Watson, Evans, Stewart, Armstrong, and Butcher families all joined the video call.
Nixon was the first to speak. “I heard Millie regained consciousness. Is that true?”
Wade looked at the screen and said, “Helga isn’t online.” Beside him sat a potted plant Millie had given him, a gift he had never spoken of to anyone. “But it makes sense. If Millie has truly regained consciousness, she’ll probably still be at the hospital,” he added.
Everyone agreed with the reasoning. Many of them had attended the wedding a year ago, and they all understood that part of Helga still blamed herself for what happened. If Millie had really regained consciousness, Helga would immediately rush to see her.
At last, Napier spoke. “I spoke with Charles. Millie did wake up, but her condition isn’t stable. She’ll likely need more tests and continued treatment.”
The group nodded. Over the past year, they had held several meetings like this, both online and in person. During that time, Crobert had gone through major changes. There was now a quiet, indescribable bond among the three giants, and everyone knew it existed because of Millie.
Napier looked toward Derek. “Derek, what is your family planning to do?”
Over the past year, Derek’s condition had improved to a degree. It wasn’t the same as when Millie had been taking care of him, but at least his health had stabilized.
“Millie waking up makes the path ahead clear for both of us,” Napier said, tightening his hold on his cane. “And with the recent complications involving MKK, the Watson family can no longer delay their decision.”
Most of the group remained silent, though each had their own views. Millie’s goal had always been clear — she wanted to restore the Bennett family and uncover the truth behind James’s death.
Derek let out a few coughs and eased back into his chair. “I’m an old man now, and the Watson family isn’t in my hands anymore,” he said after a short pause. “We’ll wait and see what Brandon decides.”
This was as good as giving his answer, since everyone knew Brandon would take Millie’s side.
Nixon looked at Napier. “Napier, what about your family?”
Wade chimed in, “Your second grandson was sent abroad. So between your eldest and youngest grandson, which one are you leaning toward?”
