Myron turned. “Is something the matter?” he asked.

“Earlier today, a Mr. Watson came to see the patient when you were out,” the nurse answered.

Mr. Watson… Meaning Brandon.

Myron understood immediately. He nodded. “Alright. Thank you. I got it.”

The nurse exited and closed the door.

After locking it, Myron carefully wiped Millie’s skin, helped her into comfortable clothing, and settled her under the blanket.

He sat by her side, staring quietly.

Even with nutrition drips and scheduled massages during her year bedridden, she had still grown far too thin.

When would she be strong enough to wake?

Myron brushed his fingers along her cheek.

“Millie,” he whispered softly.

“Please come back soon,” he breathed. “Without you… I’m barely holding together.”

Myron spoke in a low, tender voice and pressed another kiss to Millie’s forehead.

He studied her calm, sleeping face, sorrow filling his gaze. Unable to stop himself, he held her hand tightly and brushed away the tears that escaped his eyes.

Time crept forward, one moment after another.

Morning arrived before he realized it. Sunlight brightened the room. Soft rays slipped through the curtain gaps, laying little patterns of light across the hospital floor.

Myron turned toward Millie.

The golden light wrapped around her, outlining her entire form. Even her hair, the curve of her lashes, and the tiny hairs on her skin glimmered faintly.

Since she had barely gone outside since her coma, her complexion looked unbelievably pale, almost fragile enough to tear with a touch. It only made her beauty more striking.

A small smile formed on Myron’s lips. He whispered gently, “Good morning, Millie. I’m not working today. I want to stay with you the whole time, alright?”

Millie stayed motionless.

A full year had passed. On this exact date the previous year, they had been celebrating their wedding.

Remembering that, Myron closed the curtains slightly and took out a treasured tape. It held their entire wedding from early that morning when she started to get her hair and makeup done until they exchanged vows and the ceremony concluded, though the chaotic moments in between had been removed.

The projector cast the recording onto the white wall, filling the dimmed room with shifting images.

Joyful music and bright laughter echoed through the suite, bringing warmth into the quiet space.

Myron sat by her side, their hands joined, and watched the screen. From time to time, he spoke about those memories.

“You don’t know how terrified I was,” he said with a grin. “I kept thinking I would forget some detail or make some stupid mistake, and you’d refuse to marry me.”
