Chapter 854
Trevor asked, “Are you sure? You don’t want to see your mom?”
Jordyn turned her face away. “If I want to see Mom, I’ll contact her myself. You don’t need to arrange it.”
Hearing that, Trevor looked at her and was about to say something when her phone rang.
It was Celeste calling.
Jordyn stared at the screen for two seconds before answering. “Mom.”
“Mm, it’s me.”
Celeste asked from the other end, “Do you want to come over and celebrate the Harvest Moon Festival with me?”
Jordyn hadn’t been very willing to get close to her lately, so Celeste didn’t know whether she’d want to spend the holiday with her at the Rodriguez residence.
Still, she felt she should at least ask.
Jordyn hesitated before saying, “I’m not sure. Can I ask Dad and let you know later?”
Celeste answered, “Okay, let me know once you’ve decided.”
“Okay, I will. Bye, Mom.”
“…Bye.”
Once Celeste finished speaking, Jordyn ended the call.
The car was quiet.
Trevor had heard almost the entire conversation between Jordyn and Celeste. “I’ll go with whatever you decide.”
In other words, whether Jordyn wanted to spend the holiday with Celeste, with him, or with both of them, he was fine with it.
In the past, if Jordyn had heard Trevor say that, she definitely would have chosen the last option.
But now, she asked, “If I don’t go to Granny’s house with Mom for the Harvest Moon Festival, what are you going to do?”
“We’ll go back to the manor and keep your Nana company.”
“Oh.” Jordyn didn’t ask anything else.
When they got home, Jordyn still had something to take care of. After they went
upstairs, Trevor said to her, “Get some rest early.”
Jordyn ignored him, walked straight into her room, and closed the door.
…
The next day, after Trevor dropped Jordyn off at school, he returned to the company. Jacob and Zeke came to give him their regular report on the company’s situation.
After listening, Trevor gave them some instructions. When he saw Jacob still standing there with his head lowered, he asked, “Anything else?”
Both Jacob, and Zeke had been too afraid to tell him that Wynn had come looking for him several times. After all, they both knew that Wynn must have been messaging him herself.
Jacob hesitated, but in the end, he still said, “Nothing.”
“Mm. You can go.”
“Yes.”
Jacob’s phone vibrated just after he left Trevor’s office.
It was a text from Wynn. “Is he back?”
Jacob didn’t reply.
Over the past few days, Wynn had occasionally contacted him to ask about Trevor’s whereabouts, but he had never responded to any of her messages.
Meanwhile, Wynn was still at home. Seeing that Jacob didn’t reply, she put down her phone.
Lilian said to Erin, “Mom, can you give Cal a call later and ask him to come home for dinner during the Harvest Moon Festival?”
Calvin had started school a few days
ago. He had changed from
commuting to school to living on:
campus. He had also barely
contacted the family these past few
days.
Erin said, “Alright. I’ll call him later.”
When Trevor had been away on his business trip, Wynn had also tried contacting
him, but there had still been no response.
As a result, both the Lockets and Shaws were becoming increasingly anxious.
They were becoming less and less certain that Trevor was merely avoiding them to let the situation die
down. They also couldn’t decide
Whether they should continue
waiting for his response.
If Trevor really intended to abandon them, applying for bankruptcy early would at
least be better than continuing to sit around and wait.
But they were unwilling to give up just like that.
