Around dinnertime, when the Lockets and the Shaws saw Wynn.
getting ready to head out, they finally realized that Trevor had
already returned from abroad.
When they heard he’d come back that very afternoon, Ruby
couldn’t help stomping her foot in frustration.
“What? He came back this afternoon? If only he’d returned half a
day earlier! The decision period’s already over—”
Linda quickly echoed, “Exactly!”
In truth, it wasn’t just them. Even Lilian and the others felt it was
such a pity.
Two days ago, when Wynn told them that Trevor probably
wouldn’t make it back before the end of the decision period to
finalize the divorce with Celeste, they still held onto a sliver of
They believed that maybe, for Wynn’s sake, he’d come back
early and surprise her by ending things with Celeste. =
But as it turned out, Trevor really didn’t make it back before the
decision period expired.
That was why, when they learned he had returned that very
afternoon, they felt so regretful.
If he had come back just half a day earlier, he and Celeste would
already be divorced by now. And because of that half day, they’d
have to wait at least another month.
But there was no point talking about it anymore.
Patricia sighed, “Trevor hasn’t been home for quite some time. I
wonder if he’ll still be busy after this. If he has some free time,
Wynn, make sure he comes over for dinner. We still haven’t
properly thanked him for his help before.” 1
Wynn listened quietly and replied in a calm voice, “Okay.”
Meanwhile, after work, Celeste went out to have dinner with
Matthias, Zachary, and Nadine. After dinner, she accompanied
Nadine for some shopping. 1
By the time she got home, it was already past nine.
When she checked her phone, she found several messages from
Jordyn, telling her that Trevor had brought gifts and that she’d
bring them over ina few days when she had time.
Celeste looked at the messages for a while, then finally replied
with a single “Okay.”
After sending the reply, she remembered that tomorrow was
Friday. She exited the chat and glanced at her messages. There
was still nothing from Trevor.
Holding her phone for a moment in silence, she finally set it
down and went into the bathroom to shower.
The next morning, Celeste kept an eye on her phone, but even
after she got to the office, there was still no message from
Trevor asking her to go to the courthouse for the divorce. 1
When Matthias arrived and saw she was already there, he
immediately knew she hadn’t gone through with the divorce that
day either.
He couldn’t help grumbling, “Is he really that busy?”
Celeste didn’t answer.
After they finished going over a few things, they headed to
Fleming Group half an hour later.
While they were talking with some of the Fleming Group’s staff,
they suddenly heard someone say a polite greeting. “Mr. Fleming.
Both Celeste and Matthias looked up and saw Trevor walking
into the meeting room.
He looked at them and gave a polite nod in greeting.
Celeste paused slightly while Matthias frowned.
Then, the meeting began.
Everything proceeded in an orderly, predictable way—just as
they’d expected.
Trevor sat there the whole time, listening quietly. He didn’t need
to participate at all.
In other words, this meeting had nothing to do with him

Matthias clenched his jaw, leaned toward Celeste, and muttered
under his breath, “And he says he doesn’t have time? Looks
pretty damn free to me.”
