Chapter 844
Wynn and the family were still downstairs and hadn’t gone to bed.
Seeing Calvin come back downstairs, Lilian asked, “Why are you in such a hurry this late at night? What-“
Calvin stopped and looked at them, his eyes red.
He interrupted his mother. “Is what I saw online true?”
The words Lilian was about to say caught in her throat.
Everyone else fell silent for a moment as well.
Harvey was already exhausted. But at that moment, he was the only one who could appropriately step forward and respond.
He approached Calvin. “Cal, she and I simply weren’t compatible. She was stubborn and refused to listen to anyone. She was always unwilling to get a divorce. I separated from her because of our own problems. It wasn’t your mother’s fault.”
Erin regarded this grandson of hers very dearly. She gently said, “That’s right, Cal. Matters of the heart are complicated. Don’t believe everything people say outside.”
Calvin paused. Then his gaze fell on Wynn.
Wynn lowered her eyes, her expression calm and indifferent. She didn’t look at him.
Erin knew that Calvin would definitely ask about what had happened between Trevor and Wynn as well.
She glanced at Wynn before continuing. “As for your sister and your brother-in-law, that’s even more of an injustice. Trevor only married the woman because she used underhanded means.
“Ever since he got to know your sister, he’s always wanted to divorce the woman. She was the one who refused to let go and wouldn’t agree to the divorce. Trevor has only ever loved your sister. You know how good he has always been to her, don’t you?
“As for your brother-in-law changing his story at the banquet that day, it was only because of the child.”
Calvin said nothing. But his gaze shifted toward Patricia and Lilian. He wanted to ask them something.
If everything they were saying was true, then what about the debt of gratitude the Shaw family supposedly owed the Rodriguez family? Were all those claims online- that the Shaw family had repaid the Rodriguez family’s kindness with betrayal-also based on some misunderstanding?
But-
He looked at the people standing before him, the family members he’d always believed he knew so well. He couldn’t bring himself to ask.
Without saying another word, he turned and ran upstairs.
“Cal-“
Calvin didn’t look back.
Watching him disappear without turning around, they all knew that he hadn’t completely believed what they’d told him.
Erin frowned. “He’s starting school in a few days. I hope this doesn’t affect him.”
After a pause, she couldn’t help muttering, “I wonder who went around filling his head with all this nonsense.”
No one else spoke.
Patricia’s expression was equally grim. “The only way to put a stop to all those people spreading nonsense is to resolve the problems with the company and Trevor.”
Everyone else naturally understood that as well. But right now, they were in a completely passive position on both fronts.
Whether Trevor was keeping his
distance from Wynn because of pressure from his family or simply because he was frustrated and wanted to avoid her, one thing was certain-Wynn couldn’t reach him.
Erin patted Wynn’s hand. “Wynn, about Trevor…”
“I know.” Wynn didn’t say anything more. She turned and went upstairs.
After thinking about it for a moment, she decided to call Trevor anyway, even though she knew he might not answer.
As she’d expected, Trevor still didn’t answer her call.
The next morning, Calvin didn’t come downstairs for breakfast.
Lilian would handle Calvin’s situation, so Wynn didn’t get involved.
When she arrived at the company, she checked the progress of several Innova Tech projects, only to discover that there had been, virtually no progress over the past two days content
She knew the reason.
Everyone at the company was losing confidence, and morale was falling apart. On
top of that, people had been handing in their resignations every day these past few
days.
At this rate, InnovaTech might not
even make it to the point where
external factors brought the company down. With key employees continuing to leave, it would soon
become impossible for the company to keep operating.
