Narcissa was at the right age for marriage, so her family was getting anxious about finding her a suitable match.
That very night, her family told her they had arranged a blind date for her the next day.
She wasn’t particularly keen on blind dates, but in the end, she still went.
When she arrived and pushed open the door, she froze slightly at the sight of the person already seated inside.
Caleb stood up. “Ms. Lackspur?”
Narcissa nodded and walked over, taking a seat beside him. “Hello.”
“Hello, what would you like to drink?” he replied politely.
“I’ll order myself.”
After a brief exchange of pleasantries, their coffee was served. Caleb spoke first.
“Ms. Lackspur, I’m sorry, but I already have someone I like. I only came today because this was arranged at the very last minute by my aunt. She’s close friends with your mother, so it wasn’t easy for me to refuse. My apologies.”
Narcissa’s smile paused for a moment.
The night before, when her family had described the blind date as someone who had a good career, refined demeanor, and an upright family background, she had assumed they were exaggerating.
Now, she realized that they hadn’t. Caleb was indeed everything they said-well- mannered and good-looking. He was exactly her type.

She set down her coffee and couldn’t help but say, half amused and half resigned, “All of you already have someone you like it seems like I really came back too late,”
Her family had always said that there was no shortage of outstanding young men in Baumond Matthias and Beck had both once been on the list of potential matches her family considered.
But Matthias was already known to be with Celeste.
As for Beck, her family had only learned about his situation from her the previous night.
They told her that she should’ve returned to the country two years ago. At that time, she hadn’t thought much of it.

Caleb didn’t dwell on her remark. He simply said courteously, “Ms. Lackspur, with your caliber, finding someone suitable won’t be difficult.”
She didn’t respond to that. Yes, it wasn’t hard to find someone suitable given her background. But to find someone she truly liked? It was another matter entirely. Especially someone like Caleb or Beck.
Instead, she asked, “May I ask what kind of person you like?”
Caleb remained polite. “Sorry, that’s personal. I’d rather not go into it. I hope you understand.”
Narcissa paused.
At that moment, she saw something familiar in his eyes. It was just like that look Beck had last night-a kind of quiet certainty.
They both loved someone with unwavering conviction.
“I’m sorry. That was overstepping,” she said.
“It’s alright.”
They exchanged a few more polite words before Caleb stood. “I have something to attend to, so I’ll take my leave. Did you drive here? Do you need me to give you a ride?
Narcissa could easily tell it was just courtesy. “No need.”
