Chapter 1038
Chapter 1038:
Charging ahead without caution would be foolish, after all.
Myron watched her, hesitant to speak. He respected her and didn’t want to interfere, but he couldn’t just sit still while her company’s first project unfolded.
“Millie, if you need anything, let me know,” he said softly.
Millie gave him a curious look.
He smiled and reached for a tissue, wiping the sauce from her lips.
“Let me help, alright?” he said with a gentle grin.
Millie laughed.
The way he offered help almost sounded like he was pleading. As she looked at his handsome face, a playful thought crossed her mind.
She set down her fork and suddenly reached out to pinch his cheeks.
Myron caught her wrists, confused.
Millie glared at him in mock annoyance.
“Alright, alright,” he surrendered, letting go of her wrists. Then she used both hands to stretch his cheeks into a funny shape.
Myron’s eyes showed both resignation and affection.
Millie was only twenty-five—still young and full of life—yet she had faced so much already.
He wished he could take away all her burdens, but he knew she wouldn’t want that.
They played around for a while, even snapping a picture with her phone.
Myron didn’t refuse; he smiled for the camera.
In the photo, Millie stood behind him, pinching his cheeks with a bright grin. Her eyes sparkled with laughter, and Myron felt a warm happiness he couldn’t quite explain.

When she looked at the picture, her smile deepened.
“I’m keeping this one. When we’re old, I’ll show it to Ari,” she said, tucking her phone away.
Myron chuckled and nodded. Then Millie turned serious.
“For now, I can handle things on my own,” she said sincerely. She knew it might sound distant—especially since they were about to get married—but she trusted Myron to understand. JM Investments was the Bennett family’s legacy, and Millie wanted to grow it with her own hands, to lead it to success. She loved Myron deeply and knew he’d give her everything, but she cherished her independence more.
After the heartbreak with Brandon and all the pressure she had endured, she couldn’t let anyone but herself take control of her own life again.
It wasn’t about distrust—it was about protecting what they had.
Myron looked at her softly. “I understand,” he said.
Millie smiled gratefully.
He truly saw and respected her for who she was—someone strong, determined, and scarred but still standing.
Most men would have walked away from her side after all the chaos Brandon caused, but Myron stayed.
