Chapter 1475
It was exhausting. It was painful.
“Dad, I do not want to be strong all the time.” Tears fell freely as she continued, “I only want to be your little girl. I want to stay with you and Mom forever.”
She only wished to be the happy, carefree little girl she once was. All she had ever wanted was a home. But life had not been kind.
She rested her head on his lap, and he patted her back with that familiar comfort she had longed for.
“But can you truly let go?” His voice floated around her. “Your child, your husband, your friends. Can you leave all of them behind?”
Millie shut her eyes as more tears slipped down.
“You learned everything I taught you. And for years, you cared for everyone around you.” His voice continued, warm and steady. “Millie, you have always been my pride. I miss you too. But we still have a long journey ahead of us.”
Millie cried harder. “Dad…”
“Two paths lie in front of you. One is to stay here forever. The other is to return where you came from,” he said softly.
He continued, “If you stay, you will slowly let go of everyone waiting for you. They will lose you completely. If you go back, then we will part for some time.”
Millie lifted her head to look at him.
He was younger than she remembered, hands gentle as he wiped her tears.
“You will choose well, Millie. One day, I will come to take you home myself,” he said with a soft smile.
She gazed at his face, unable to hide her reluctance. But could she really turn away from everything waiting for her?
She finally closed her eyes and nodded.
Her tears did not stop. The warm house around her faded quickly. The little world she cherished drifted away.
Inside it was a family of three. A father. A mother. A child. A perfect circle of love and laughter.
But it all slipped from her grasp.
Her father’s face vanished, shrinking into a single point of light. And then the light disappeared.
Darkness swallowed her again.
She remained in that deep black for what felt like ages. She tried to gather her thoughts, searching desperately for an exit. But every direction felt the same.
In that shadowy space, time meant nothing. All she knew was that she had been running endlessly, reaching for something she could not see.
Sometimes she heard distant sounds, but she could never find where they came from.
Her body felt weightless, drifting as it wished, yet so heavy she could barely move.
Shapes flashed through her mind, though none came through her eyes.
Time and sensation were scattered, as if her entire world was out of focus.
Until something cool slid onto her finger.
Crobert.
