Chapter 1483
Nicole’s tears kept flowing, and Millie reached forward to gently brush them away.
Nicole caught her daughter’s hand and squeezed it tight.
“Millie,” Nicole cried. “I know the truth now.”
She looked at Millie with so much emotion in her eyes. “I was wrong.” Nicole choked out, her voice shaking. “Will you ever forgive me?”
A rush of emotion overcame Millie, and tears spilled down her cheeks.
She gazed at Nicole, her heart heavy with longing and pain.
For so many years, she had wished for a chance to mend things with her mother and clear away all the misunderstandings between them.
They finally shared an honest conversation, working through the issues that had kept them apart.
She never wanted an apology from her mother, nor did she hope for Nicole to suffer. Even so, she felt deeply content with how things had turned out.
“Mom…” Millie’s tears streamed down her face, her voice raspy with emotion.
Nicole gently reached over and wiped away Millie’s tears.
“I’m here, Millie,” Nicole replied in a soft, loving tone.
“Mom!” Millie called out again, her tears refusing to stop.
“Millie!” Nicole pulled her daughter close and hugged her tightly.
For the first time in so many years, mother and daughter held each other, as if the long years of separation had melted away.
Millie clung to Nicole, crying her heart out.
They spent time talking about everything, finally clearing up all the confusion and hurt that had built up over the years.
After a while, Nicole seemed to remember something important.
“Oh, there’s still something I haven’t mentioned,” she said.
Millie lifted her gaze to Nicole, curious.
“They have decided to lengthen Hayden’s sentence,” Nicole told her. “We gathered all the proof of what he did to you and handed it over to the authorities.”
A surprised look appeared on Millie’s face, and she tried to respond, “But you…”
She understood just how much Hayden had meant to Nicole.
Nicole gently stroked Millie’s hair and said, “I’ve let go of my feelings for him.”
Worried that Millie might doubt her, she added, “Helga introduced me to a lot of new people… It made me see I was being too hard on myself.”
Millie’s lips curled into a smile as she leaned once more into Nicole’s arms.
“Mom, while I was unconscious, I had a long dream and felt like I’d traveled back in time,” Millie said softly. “It was as if we were together again, and I realized just how much I missed you.”
Nicole gently stroked Millie’s back, her own tears slipping down.
“Millie,” she murmured. “All these years, I’ve been stubborn and set in my ways; I failed to understand how you felt and how much I had hurt you. From now on, I promise I’ll make things right with you.”
Nestled in her mother’s embrace, Millie gave a small nod. She decided she would do her best to care for her mom as well.
